Change of Scenery

My partner and I have been considering moving for some time now. Some of our criteria is a progressive, gay friendly city. Some of our considerations have been Ashville, NC, Nashville, TN, and most recently Denver, CO. One of our biggest concerns is cost of living. We have become disenchanted with the politics of Memphis. It is a depressed area, and it tends to wear on you. The gay community here is very aggressive on change, and we will certainly miss our friends. But at some point in our lives, we see that we've grown stagnant and need to make a change. He and I both feel that we are past that point. I look forward to any feedback to this posting.

We lived in Denver for 9 months and did not enjoy the experience at all. Culturally lacking to say the least also a more than subtle undercurrent of racism and prejudice. It's a city where on Friday afternoon EVERYONE leaves and goes away for the weekend. Just did not work for us but lots of people love it. Luckily got transferred to London for a few years (the best!). Have a relative in Ashville and go to visit frequently....it is a terrific place. We're seriously considering retiring in the area, great people, great food, theatre and lots to do. Good luck.

Well, as of 3 months ago we moved to Hot Springs Arkansas. We are still settling in, and we love where we are. We are in the county with a little over 2 acres of land. We have found the LGBT community very welcoming and the city is very progressive. We love the mountain scenery every time we get out.
