What's wrong with writing?

If writing is so bad, why are William Shakespeare's works still in demand? Why do we clamor for JK Rowling and Anne Rice to keep writing.

Without writing, there is no creative outlet for the person who cannot paint, play music, or express in words. Writing is one of the last bastions of fantasy and the imagination.
