Here's To Hoping...

My friend returns from town in a couple of hours so i want his place in great shape. kitchen is gleaming, his bed has fresh linens on it, his dog has been brushed and had ice put in his water bowl, the decks, walk paths and driveway have been blown out. i have mopped the floors and the bathrooms are in good order.

in taking a break, i poured a rum and coke (mount gay rum if anyone knows what that is) and sat out on the deck to drink it.

the neighbors on the back side, a few doors down have a 2 year old little boy. the kid was screaming. i figure his teeth coming in are killing him and he doesn't know what else to do but scream. the dad figured out that if he fired up the blower, the kid stopped screaming. so the blower would run, kid would be quiet. blower would stop - kid would scream.

i could hear the exasperation in the dad's voice as he stopped the blower and the kid would scream and as the dad would talk, the kid would shut up. dad was relieved. the dad stopped talking and stopped running the blower and the kid screamed.

lol.

poor guy. he just wants his kid to be happy.
tries everything to make it happen and nope. screaming kid. i wonder if he went in and gave the kid benadryl. lol.

this is just the sort of thing that i would welcome, embrace and laugh with as a dad.
hey - if the sound of a blower calms the little one down then a blower i will run. if the sound of my voice calms down the baby, then i will read him a lot of books.

people who have children tell me i am crazy to want children and not to do it. but i don't know about that. what un-nerves so many parents about children are things that calm me and calm the kids. so - here's to hoping for kids i have with a mom that feels the same.

You're not crazy. I sowed a lot of wild oats and did a lot of stupid things as a young man, but the crowning achievement, my defining moment, was becoming a Dad. More than that really - any one can become a Dad; the best part is BEING a Dad and doing everything you can to be awesomely Dad-like for your kids. Mothers are not the only ones who nurture. Guys can too, and it's the gift that keeps on giving!

Boy, are you broody or what??! :)
Having kids is great but you can do it any time you want. After all, you're a man. Ultimately, it's unlikely that you'll be the one staying at home, changing the nappies, taking them to playgroup. Chill out. When the right woman comes along, you'll know it.
