More on getting older

This happened this past Saturday morning ... but first, a little background so it makes more sense.

I usually wake up around 6 AM to go the bathroom, but as I read some nights until midnight, I need to go back to sleep. What was happening when I got up was my cat was waking up and then when I would go back to bed, she would sit outside me door and howl until I would get up. I would be so tired during the day I would have to take a nap.

I was reminded of my first trip to visit my friend in San Francisco during pride. I had met a guy at the trolley pickup and he and his friends spent the day with me. They were from Salt Lake City and happened to be gay mormons. On Friday night, after going bar hoping, my friend hooked up with one of the guys and brought him back to the apartment. I was sleeping on the sofa in the living area. I woke up the next morning and had to go to the bathroom, but the using the bathroom meant going into his bedroom. Since I was not sure what I might find I looked for an alternative. I found a large black vase and decided that was a good solution. He never knew and of course I washed it out.

When I returned home, I told some friends and the "Black Vase" became a thing. I was getting them as gifts! I did finally tell my friend a few years later.

Back to the present ... I had a large blue vase that was not being used so I decided I would use that, but would go in my bedroom and then dump it in the morning. And so it began, a year or two of doing that and not disturbing the cat and allowing me to barely wake up, no lights turned on, and no glasses needed to see. When I was done I had a spot on a dresser to put it.

I took my Flomax Friday night before bed. I woke around 5:45 AM and kind of had to go. I debated and decided I would sleep better if I got up and went. I was standing over by my "tall-boy" chest of drawers. I was just finishing when I suddenly had this very weird feeling wash over me. I knew something was wrong and I suddenly felt myself losing control of me. I felt the vase slip out of my hand and then I went down hitting my head on the Tall Boy. I still don't know if I blacked out, but I do know the vase shattered which meant all the urine I had just put in the vase was now all over the floor (carpet) and it had splashed on the furniture and some clothing that was near by.

I quickly tried to clean up the urine. My dog was as confussed as hell. I had to chase the cat away from the door way and through all of this I had the pressence of mind to check my blook pressure. It had taken close to a 30 point drop. I thought I had hit my face on a handle on the tall boy, but it turned out (once I itched a spot on my head and my hand came away with blood on it) I hit my head. I had a headache, but once had everything under control - I ate my breakfast because I was "crazy" hungry. Once done, I took care of the pets and though still having a headache, I decided to run some errands.

As I was finishing my errands, the headache felt worse, so I went to emergency care. The doctor there was wonderful and due to a history of head trauma, I was sent to the ER. I spent 3.5 hours in the ERA having a CT scan, blood work, EKG, and IV fluids. All the tests were negative and eventually I was released.

So, I found out that Flomax can make things like this happen. Lucky me! I say all this to just say, make sure you know all the side effects of your medications and remember it can happen to you!
