So, here I am - trying something else out here in Internetopia. At the behest of a friend or two here on LPSG, I am starting a blog. I am a complete and total n00b at blogging, so please bear with me.
The first few posts here will be reposts of things that I have typed up for threads here on LPSG.
I have a pronounced and distinct tendency to be very wordy, and as such have a hard time talking about things that have happened to me in a concise manner. This actually is quite baffling to me, as I have memory issues.
I won't beat around the bush - I am supposedly pretty smart. At least according to the IQ test results. Be that as it may, however, I have a horrible memory. They say that declarative memory is divided into two types: Episodic and Semantic. Episodic memory is the type of memory which enables us to remember those things that we've done, stuff that's happened to us. Semantic memory is the type that allows us to remember facts and meanings - our general knowledge of the world around us. In addition to those types of memory (which together make up "declarative" memory), we also have procedural memory, which enables us to remember how to do things.
My procedural and semantic memory is off the charts awesome - if I do or learn something once, I remember it or know how to do it again.
My episodic memory is horrible. I don't even remember what exactly I said 30 seconds ago, let alone what I did last week.
It is for this reason that my ability to remember things that happened to me years, sometimes decades ago baffles me. I have this odd ability to remember such things with (I'd bet) near-100% clarity. It is also for this same reason that my posts about my experiences are so incredibly long.
These posts don't start out as two-page essays. In fact, usually I have no idea what I am going to type as I sist down at the keyboard. I just start typing, remember a detail and add it here, remember another and add it there, and before you know it I've written the Starr report.
Anyhow, now you know what you're likely to encounter in the rest of my blog, and the reasons why I am so wordy. If it bores you, I apologise, but would also encourage you to stop reading it - nobody's forcing you to finish wading through my mindless drivel and prattle, least of all me.
Also, if you feel that the level of detail contained therein would lead you to believe that my writings are fanciful, that is your own prerogative. I don't necessarily believe that questioning the world around you is a bad thing; however, unless I state otherwise the events written herein did actually happen, and I've recollected them to the best of my ability as they actually occured.
Thanks for reading this first entry. Enjoy the rest,
-TE
