Pheromones!

I knew about most of these studies. For many decades I have been surprised by an almost overwhelming attraction to an otherwise non-descript guy when within a few feet of him but the obsession fades when further apart (say 20 feet, 6 metres). I have even toyed with the experience by moving to and fro and finding that my attraction gets switched on and off. There has never been much conscious awareness of smell at these times.
