What is a blog?

There seem to be two types of blogs. A private blog where only the author (and the occasional meddlesome moderator) can make comments, which helps to prevent hijacking and flaming. A public blog is different from the forums in that...um...well it's kinda...you know I really don't have a clue.

Unless the blog author has the ability to control which comments are allowed I don't see a difference.
