Maybe what they're calling "getting ugly" is a boy no longer having the face and body of a teenager/child and starting to look like a young man, which he is.
Thats not even close to it, if anything he looks more boyish now. Only thing that makes him look like a man is the fact that he has muscle to him.

Precisely, if nothing changed, and the only thing was the body that became more masculine and less twink, that's the point.
