Instead of spending a small fortune on tests for anal lube, I thought I’d ask the experts.

Water based lube, the two we tried anyway, failed. “We” being a mixed gender couple.
I hate the very idea of petroleum jelly, although that was what was around for the first time. It was bizarrely messy.
My Love is sometimes a bit too excited and forgets that his playground of choice for the moment is not self lubricating like the other. :)

I really just want to use coconut oil or other food oil.
I read a post about freezing coconut in cubes and grabbing as needed, and that seems like a good idea.
Are there other all natural oils (I’m a massage therapist, so I have oils, butters and waxes [jojoba] at hand or easily obtained) that work well? I’d only be resistant to palm, even “sustainable palm.”

The mega macho gun oil and such are not appealing.

I've been making my own lube. The basic recipe I follow is Xantham Gum mixed with water, a few drops of clove oil and sometimes some melted crisco. The clove oil acts like a preservative to help make it last longer.

I cannot do coconut oil, I sometimes have a mild allergic reaction to coconut and I don't think that would be a good thing down there.

I have tried various lubes too.
Water based ones dries out too quickly and needs reapplying constantly. Silicon feels too "oily" and is difficult to wash off. Natural like coconut also needs a lot of reapplication and sometimes feels abrasive depending on the brand. I haven't tried any other natural/cooking oils.
Currently using a hybrid lube which feels amazing and easier to wash off than pure silicon. Bought the JO brand and it has been the best lube i have used so far. Might try other brands of hybrid once i finish it.

Keep experimenting and having fun trying what works. Everyone is different and will have differing opinions on preferences. For some that are lucky, just using saliva is enough.

alas, I’m not a lucky one.

Anesthetic seems a bad idea when one is more rookie to this. One needs to know if something is going awry, so to adjust it.

Yes, this is precisely why I felt it needed to be pointed it out. Sometimes people into butt stuff use various sorts of numbing and pain-killing substances to get done what they want to get done. This might be okay if one is highly experienced, and very good at monitoring the signs of what is going on inside one's body. But without such expertise, it heightens the risks involved sharply, and so I think in most cases people should be steered away from using such substances in pushing the sensed limits of their bodies.

Given the anus has “tearing” pain sensitivity for only a few inches at best, numbing seems like a “we always have this trouble spot, and a doc has checked and it’s nothing” option.
Just my anatomical 2c.

My two favorite lubes:

oil based: Slam Dunk (with clove oil)
water based: Fist powder (which is similar to J-lube but lasts longer once mixed)

I do not use silicone based lube as you can't use it on silicone based toys, of which I have many (Bad-Dragon rules).

I love coconut oil.

As long as you dont need to worry about breaking condoms, it's a good one. If you keep it refrigerated it will stay solid at room temp for a good while (warm it up in your hands first - it will melt, but wont give you the shivers).

There's another oil-based called "Boy Butter" that's also not bad, but I find it has a bit of a hand-cream texture.

Then there is J-Lube. People use it for fisting a lot. It comes in a powder and you have to mix it, It's a bit of a faster-lane solution because of what people use it for, but I always thought that it would do well used sparingly for lighter / penile play though. It's kind of like the texture of ...really heavy mucous. It can be stringy; it's that viscous. I think it can be adjusted with the amount of water you add though.

I have tried boy butter original and water based. Both require body heat to make it workable. Does take awhile for it to become more liquid like consistency. They have an oily feeling and can be hard to wash off. Maybe more suitable for heavy duty anal play and toys?

Alright, I'm gonna ask a really dumb question. I have coconut oil, for cooking. I've dabbled with it for bating purposes, feels great. My question though, if it's sold in a solid form (and it does melt quick!) how do they sell it in liquid form without it resolidiying? Would it need to be cooled, or...?

Pure coconut oil has a melting point of about 78 degrees fahrenheit. I'd suggest melting it in the microwave, pouring it into a plastic film lined baking tray, putting it in the fridge to set and cutting it into sugar cube sized pieces and then stored in a container in the fridge to keep it really hard and prevent it melting and sticking or clumping together. It also buys you time to stick it inside you without melting all over the place.

Oh! I love the coconut oil suppository idea. I get a real special feeling when bottoms come to me pre-lubed. You know they're really working for you when this happens. :D :D

Hey guys, for jerking off try Albolene. Looks like the Slam Dunk container sorta. It's oil-based & the big container lasts for months... inexpensive too. Every grocery store has it. First read about this product in a gay porn magazine I came across in a park bathroom as a kid & I've been using it ever since. Stays slick for a long time & a little goes a long way but it's hard to wash off sheets, so I suggest you set a towel under your horny ass first.
