Hi @Gay2Str8_Moflex, new members are able to DM after they make (either) 5 posts - OR - after 48 hours from joining.

ah. Guess that answers why I was able to DM peeps two or three days later.
But that still doesn't solve the mystery as to why a few folks don't have the "start conversation" button under their screen name, and I can't get a private hold of them.

No, not really. It's just that some people don't wish to be contacted and have changed their settings to reflect that.... and, some (many) click their settings by mistake and don't even know it.

Appreciate the info. How do I turn off mine, in the case I don't want to be contacted by one or more persons? My experiences have taught me that every online community has its trolls. Simply preparing for that.Haha
