I guess I don't understand how they search for the videos though, to be honest. Is it just a person or two scanning for the file somehow and see if it shows up anywhere?

if it's not reported then it's because an a.i. has the info on the video and scanned it to find the similarities, it's why youtubers avoid having songs play in their videos, because if they're under copyright, the a.i. will identify the music and flag the video for takedown for using a copyrighted song. so if it's similar, the a.i. scans to find anything equal to the source material and automatically gets it taken down, does the whole report thing, etc. human intervention is usually only during appeals. as in, the uploader made an appeal to the takedown, because it wasn't correct, and they'll often times get to contact someone working for the site. but for a majority of takedowns, it's an a.i. doing most of the work. the other times where it's a person it's because a person reported the content for being pirated, and then the a.i. deals with the matter
