Has anyone ever noticed the exchange Scudder and Maurice have in the museum when Maurice comments on a statue of a bull saying "This one has five legs"? Then Scudder replies, "So's mine." Forster was absolutely writing a bit of smut for horny gay men who love a huge penis. It's so subtle that some readers would miss it, but not gay men.
