One of the bad things about a breakup is the possibility of running into your ex. In the gay world, that seems to be an even higher probability. I had tried to stay out of the gay bars for a few months, as I was not in the mindset to run into my ex. I reached a point where I was ready for the chance encounter, so I headed to meet up some friends for a happy hour bar meet-up.
Everything was going great, until I spotted one of my ex’s best friends. Post breakup, I had unfollowed all of his friends. It wasn’t really a sacrifice as they never really felt like they were my friends. Allen was one of the nicer ones, specifically one of my ex’s friends that we had a threesome with on multiple occasions during our relationship. I tried to play it cool and just pretend I hadn’t seen him.
I stood by the bar waiting for my turn to order, when I could see Allen walking towards me, I prepared for impact.
“So…are you just going to pretend we don’t know each other?” He said as he leaned on the bar right next to me.
“Hey, of course not. Sorry.” I gave him a hug.
“Look don’t want you to ever feel uncomfortable running into me. I liked you, even without the sex”, he jokingly (but maybe not) mumbled.
He picked up my tab for the drinks I was ordering for my friends and me. He even ordered a couple tequila shots for him and I. We chatted a bit about life, and I went on my way.
As I was settling into bed, I received a message from Allen on Instagram, which followed by a “follow request”.
“Sorry if this is weird but wanted to say it was nice catching up. If you are ever up for it, we should meet up for some drinks or grab a bite to eat one day” His message read.
I accepted his request, and we slowly started corresponding. After a couple weeks that turned into us actually texting. Our conversations were friendly and flirty so he deserved actual texts from me. We would sometimes have a bit more than flirty messages on a late night exchange.
We finally decided it was time to hangout. I suggested a lunch on Friday, as that would be a short and harmless meet-up (at least that’s what I told myself). He convinced me that the only option I had was for him to pick me up, just made “sense”. Even though he wasn’t my friend, Allen was someone I really liked during my time in my ex’s Robert life. But over the past few weeks of messaging, I actually thought he could be a good friend.
Lunch was great, somehow we ended up having two bottles of white wine. Which then lead to us ending up at a couple bars. On the third bar, we ran into my ex. I never asked Allen about my ex or asked if he was aware of our new friendship. Allen seem to be caught off guard, as Robert walked up to us. I hadn’t seen my ex, much less talked to him in person. He would randomly sent me messages on Grindr when he was drunk about how me missed my ass and dick. Drunk me would respond but it was always late night and just sex talk.
I walked away and headed to the bathroom. I wasn’t emotional distraught it was just a weird situation, now add Robert seeing my hanging out with his best friend. I texted Allen that I was ready to head somewhere else, he quickly found me outside and we headed to another bar. At a certain point the night started getting away from me, I could tell it was time to wrap it up.
Allen somehow seemed sober and composed.
“If you are up for it, come back to my place for a drink or two. I’ll get you a cab from there back to your place” Allen suggested. Off we went.
The drinks of course ended up being…us making out on his couch and him drunkly leading me to his bed. I remembered falling onto his bed but next thing I remembered was waking up naked next to Allen. He lived in a skyscraper with full windows as his walls, no way you could sleep in late with the sun. I got up and went to his bathroom. Started trying to puzzle the night together and find my clothes.
“That was hot last night” Allen coyly smiled as I walked out of the bathroom.
“Don’t remember much”.
“Well we made out. Got naked. You gave me an amazing bj then you didn’t let me fuck you. So not much to tell” Allen laughed.
We started hanging out from time to time but daily texts were exchanged. He slowly would bring up my ex, Robert, and how Robert was fine we were friends. Robert actually told Allen we should all hangout one day. That wasn’t a surprise as Robert was messaging me on Grindr even when he wasn’t drunk. Telling me we should hookup, he’s fine with my friendship with Allen… Robert has one of the best dicks I ever experienced, so of course I would of loved for us to be fuck buddies but I just didn’t trust myself jumping back into bed that soon of our breakup.
Allen and I had hung out several times since that drunken night of making out but had not ended up naked again. I still felt weird about his closeness with my ex. Believe me, I was messy but even I try and keep it a little classy sometimes.
Allen and I went for a dinner one night, which then lead to going to meet up some of his friends at some straight bars. Most of the group wanted to call it an early night, Allen and I were feeling the tequila and wanted to continue. One of his friends, Will, stated he would be down for the gay bars. The three of us Uber’ed over. Will was hot, my type a white boy with a nice athletic built. Didn’t hurt that he was super nice and flirty. After a couple bars, Will excused himself to go meetup a couple friends. He stated he would meet us up in a bit. Allen and I continued drinking and dancing the night away.
“Hey let’s head out before they close so we don’t have to wait for a car long. I told Will to come meet us up at my place once he’s done with his friends” Allen screamed over the music.
I was tipsy but the tequila shots continued at Allen’s place. We discussed how hot I found Will.
“He gets around. Maybe I can make something happen tonight with you both.” Allen said as he poured another shot into my eager open mouth.
I was getting pretty tired and exponentially drunk. I jumped in the shower then slid into Allen’s bed as he cleaned up. I heard a knock at the door, as my eyes started closing. I could hear some voices coming from Allen’s bathroom and the shower running. Then the water stopped, and could feel someone getting into bed.
The night was the opposite of the daytime inside Allen’s apartment. His bedroom faced to an open bayou, so on a clouded night, it was pitched dark if the lights were off. I felt Allen wrap his arms around my body.
“Got you what you wanted. I just need to get what I want too.” Allen whispered into my ear.
