A look around the confines of the interwebs turns up absolutely nothing. I did see a single social media post somewhere, that I don't recall, claiming that they weren't "closed". That post was from sometime in the spring of 2024.
However, the sight has not been updated since early November 2023. At the time I'm writing this, that's nine months ago, so I feel relatively save in assuming for myself that there won't be any new updates. The site itself seems to be up and running, and appears to be accepting new subscriptions. I didn't have an active subscription there when the site stopped updating, but I assume that they're also billing those who did, so there is still a revenue stream and that money has to be going somewhere.
As I see it there are really only a few options for what happened:
- They retired, a la Titan Media, just one day they turned off the lights and called it quits, however as I pointed out the web site is still up and apparently functional. This could be due to them simply collecting what they can off of it.
- Another option is that they are taking some sort of voluntary break/vacation and will sooner or later come back and resume as they were. (I don't find this likely, but it is a valid possibility.)
- Some sort of personal tragedy has befallen the sites principals and they are unable to post updates or whatever. For the time being the site is taking care of itself (or they had a contract with an IT firm to keep it patched and etc.)
The two most probable scenarios are the first and the last. The differentiators will be what happens to the site over time:
- If the site stays up and functional for a protracted period of time, it becomes increasingly likely that they just stopped and are collecting what they can. This is due the fact websites require continual care and feeding. Without that care and feeding, things started breaking down and stuff stops working. If it stays up and running, it means someone is taking care of it, or is paying someone to keep it up and running, either of which demonstrates intent.
- If the site starts to crumble around the edges (things stop working, certificates expire, links start breaking, etc .) then it's likely that there's no one at the helm. If the site owners had outsourced those tasks, it may take until that outsourcing contract expires before things start going wrong. Regardless, crumbling would tell me that there's no one able to care for thing that been up and running for a long time.
What the actual case is, will likely remain a mystery unless someone with actual first hand knowledge steps forward and provides some details.
