I've recently seen the word goon & gooner showing up and being said in some of the group cam sites I'm on and it's clear to me that this is something different an unique from the more plain masturbation, jerking off, and wanking that I grew up on.

Last I knew, nobody knew its full origins for sure. One idea is that "goon" refers to making goofy, scrunched up faces.

I would guess that solosexuality and gooning rose to prominence in the last 20-30 years, after the stigmas attached to masturbation were mostly lifted, and men (and to a lesser extent, women) started becoming more adventurous and involved in their self-love. Throw the ubiquity of the internet and social media into the mix, and you've got a bunch of guys (and gals) getting into the idea.

This is a pretty good description of what gooning is. I edge quite regularly and occasionally, maybe once a month, it will turn into a gooning session. There are usually two stages I reach when edging where I know I'm going to goon out.

The first is that the edging, which may in itself have already lasted several hours, leads to a feeling of orgasmic invincibility. I no longer have to stroke to the edge and stop each time. The pre orgasmic high just stays turned on.

I agree, its what happens to the facial muscles at the moment of ejaculation or on reaching a sexual high. Being rimmed brings me to a state of ecstasy, being sucked and it's a different high while being fucked and shooting ones load hands-free can produce some really wild goonlike faces.
