Who's the arsehole?

Good looking guy on Grindr, his profile said in part "Just moved here to escape from the fascist regime of America. Have a mercy on this old soul"

Me: "Hey there, how's it?"

Him: "If I wanted to meet old and fat trolls. I would have stayed in America"

Me: "charming, all I said was hello. seems like you have brought the worst of America with you"

Him: "Thanks"

He is an arsehole, clearly. But am I one too for responding in kind?

His response wasn't called for ever.

Grindr is an exercise in rejection therapy a lot of the time. So, although it can sting when these types of asshole interactions happen it's a good chance to practice not taking it personally and letting it go.

Don't well on it x

I applaud your restraint. You shouldn't have shown him any mercy. The rudest people I've met anywhere in the world are my fellow countrymen. It's so embarrassing.

Americans are now being forced to surrender their ' filters' to customs. The anger, sarcasm and disappointment now flow as free as an open faucet. Powerless to be silenced again. We suggest backing away Slowly, palms facing them, using A lullaby type tone to assure them, it's going to be just fine.

That's why I am now on the TheBlowers! I can't stand Grindr anymore... They don't have an app yet but the website is great! You should try!

His response was uncalled for and definitely had nothing to do with your appearance. People who actually reject people on appearance usually do it more carefully. Unfortunately these types of responses come from people with personal issues, mostly related to low self esteem.

I once had someone who was extremely rude out of nowhere. Instead of going the usual way and giving him a piece of my mind and ruining his self esteem, I switched tactics and chose a new approach by calling him out, but with kindness and empathy. I asked why are you saying these mean things? Looks like you're intentionally trying to hurt me.

His response was defensive but I could tell it had actually sunk in. He tried to say he had felt attacked by me even though I had only said hello.

Sometimes showing you're vulnerable and that a stranger's words have an impact on you will make them reconsider the way they treat others.
