Weapons can be sometimes used for more than war. The internet was originally made by the US military so was GPS. Even gunpowder did have good use in construction to clear debris.
Yeah gun powder from China I believe, once used as fireworks. Then made into weapons of war. I don't think African slaves and native Americans appreciated that very much tho. About as much as the people of the middle east do today, but obviously people benefited.

I do not know about the A.I. porn, but I know about the A.I. generated photos so far. I have not seen any A.I. generated videos or motion pictures. But who would benefit from that. Admittedly tho, some of the A.I. created pictures can turn me on... In face only lol, A.I. has a way to go to create a sexy body. That I seen anyway

Yeah, melting hand blobs and 3 loops for legs aren't very attractive.

When you can't tell AI from reality, you won't be able to tell news from propaganda. Be very careful.
Deep fakes will defenately be very dangerous if they get good enough. I don't really see how we can defend against them if they eventually look too real

There was an audio file supposedly from a British politician sent around social media a month or so ago. Very convincing. But also utterly fake, done by AI. Once they start getting more and more common the lines between reality and fantasy will be a huge threat to democracy.

I mean what if when an official does something bad on camera they say it's a deepfake? The truth could become very blurry.

Who Invented the Internet?

"The first workable prototype of the Internet came in the late 1960s with the creation of ARPANET, or the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. Originally funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, ARPANET used packet switching to allow multiple computers to communicate on a single network."

So U.S. Dept of Defense didn't invent the internet. They funded ARPANET. Non-military scientists created the internet. In the same way, if I own stock in Apple, I didn't invent the iPhone 15. Resources are important but providing them doesn't constitute invention.

My point was specifically about the origins of things. The DOD did still have interest and influence in the earliest days of the internet. It would be more like how a large stockholder or even a member of the board of directors has an influence on products. But the small funding details don't significantly change my point.

Companies would like to use AI images of celebrities in perpetuity instead of paying them. That's part of what the SAG-AFTRA strike is about. Of course technology can be used for good or evil, celebration or exploitation. And capitalism, colonialism, war-mongering, etc. pushes things in the evil direction.

We're so at the beginning of what AI can be. People need to understand that what you're looking at isn't necessarily real and it's increasingly difficult to tell. AI can and is being used to create war propaganda at this very moment. And perhaps the entirety of what I've commented was generated by ChatGPT or the like.

My point is just that let's not gloss over history as it may be the only thing that saves us in the future.

When the human being has a tool in his hand, his brain becomes abstracted.

As long as the tool is working correctly and fulfilling its purpose, the human will enter a state of flow and become one with the tool.

The human will become in the activity itself. He will become the idea. He will become the objective.

At this point we can understand why many tools have been used with bad intentions. The fault does not lie with the tool itself, but within the person using it.

How can we stop evil? Everybody knows how! But no everybody is doing it...

You may have seen AI generated videos (or ones with AI modifications) that you weren't aware were AI and were not labeled as such.
