Gay people, here's a question: How did you meet your partner/friends??

I've been living in Bangkok since April this year and today I went to Gay Street for the first time.
However, there was nothing I could do but walk back and forth along the street.

How do you find friends in a place??
If anyone has any tips, please let me know.

Gay apps. Even in countries with restrictions, you can use a vpn like the locals.

Facebook, joining groups etc. Even undefined groups or classes in known gay areas will have a high probability.

Gyms and bars are very low success for friends as people tend to keep to themselves or their group unless they are just looking for sex on premises.

Thank you for your answer!!
I see, I understand.

The problem here is communication skills.
I can't speak English or Thai yet.
I also don't drink much alcohol.
Would it be difficult to get close to someone in this situation??

I've never dated anyone or been friends with anyone before.
I have no experience.

Where are you from? And whereabout are you in Bangkok? I'm visiting, and would love to meet if you are interested in having lunch/dinner

I'm from Japan.
Now, it may not be wise to say on the internet where I live.

I usually have work during the week, but I might have days off on weekends.

In that situation, you could search for Japanese gay Expat groups in Thailand on Facebook.

It depends on what type of friends you are looking for. Is it friends like long term friends or party friends? It affects on where you could find them

I'm embarrassed to say that I'm a beginner when it comes to building these relationships.
Maybe I need someone to gently teach me.

I don't know what Thai people are like. Whether they are receptive or not.

I don't like apps, because they tend to attract people with the clear goal of having sex. At least that's my impression.

I would try to find friends in courses. Because there you are studying and the goal of the people there is to learn. So, I think it filters things out a bit.

I'm thinking of going to a language classroom. (I haven't been able to go yet because of my work.)
