Increased libido on methylphenidate

I (M) have ADHD and started methylphenidate a few years ago (started being a problem for my work, which requires prolonged focus). I noticed that my libido shot through the roof whenever I’m on the meds, which is the opposite of what the psychiatrist told me would happen. I brought it up once but he was very dismissive of it so I never mentioned it again. Recently I moved up to a higher dose and a different longer-acting brand and now my libido is up (pun intended) most of the day.

It has its pros and cons, so I can’t really say I mind. Pros - definitely more energy during sex, orgasms are even more intense. Cons - it’s distracting and sometimes interferes with work (often have to take a mid-day break to relieve myself).

Has anyone else with ADHD experienced this on methylphenidate?

Brand names of methylphenidate include Ritalin, Ritalin LA, Concerta, Metadate CD, Methylin, Methylin ER, Daytrana, Quillivant XR, Quillichew ER, Aptensio XR, Cotempla XR-ODT, Jornay PM, and Adhansia XR.

Ah okay. That may help some people out. Unfortunately I havent had any luck even getting a doctor to test me for ADHD despite all my experiences aligning with others who have it or been diagnosed. Had two people who are ADHD be surprised I wasnt diagnosed. They said they recognized it in me as well instantly.

Though it is odd(sadly not really that odd) that your doctor said no libido increase is known. That's definitely a thing that can be affected by that medication.

I wasn’t tested as a kid either even though I had all the symptoms looking back, sort of just fell through the cracks. Only reason I got tested was our uni did a free ADHD screening program and I decided to go. Then they referred me to a specialist, who referred me to a testing center for ADHD, and after about two weeks of tests I finally got meds. Maybe you could do something similar, start with a free screening program and get referred from there?

I have taken methylphenidate for years and yes it has increased my libido. While I was a horny guy before, that ramped it up quite a bit. Even now in my early 60's I have a high sex drive and could easily get off every day. My hubby is younger than me and has a lower sex drive, thankfully he is willing to help relieve me when he is not in the mood.
