Lesson From Dad At The Age Of 18+

The only thing I was taught by dad was “Always use condoms when having sex”. It was my first year in college. Apart from that, everything was learned through school, friends, internet, porn and my own experiences

He was a good man but busy making a living so we could have what we needed. Morals and values I think are learned earlier than that age but when I was 18, I was already out of the house and in college (started summer school there before I turned 18).

At that time in my life he mainly emphasized the importance of being responsible and actually doing what you say you are going to do. Another important lesson at that age was being forced to manage my budget. He was not going to 'bail me out' from that point forward. I had some growing pains for sure in my late teens. June 15th, 2000 was the day he died so tomorrow will be 20 years after that happened.

We never had the 'facts of life talk'. His main emphasis was to be honest and pay attention to what was going on around me to avoid getting into trouble.
