There is a genre of gay erotic fiction/romance written both by women and for women. It is not as appealing to gay men, but it’s definitely gay and male. For any readers of this sub-genre:

What do you like about it?

What do you like or dislike about MM erotica or romance written by/for men?

What are the mood-killers an MM romance writer should avoid in order to appeal to women?

I read fanfiction some. It's the only time I specifically seek out a specific kind of romantic pairing/group/whatever in anything I read. Otherwise, I pick books for the story/premise, not the gender of the main character(s). As far as the fanfiction, it's due to the story and background surrounding a particular character. I think it fits better. I also think they got cheated of good things that they earned, including a happy life, a happy romance, etc. I'm quite fond of this particular character, though I haven't fretted about the why. My turn offs for what I read aren't specific to m/m pairings. I want it to seem genuine, evolve in a way that seems natural, not have ridiculous word choice, not have repetitive word choice, and not to spend 20 pages describing some physical attribute or other. If I just want to rub one out, my imagination serves me fine. Sometimes I'll watch porn. If I want to read something with romance in it, I don't just want something that is forever long smut with zero plot.

I have a few novels on Amazon that are mm romances but extremely graphic, so I classified them as erotica. They have intricate plots and a lot of sex, with a happy ending for the couple. So I guess they’re erotic romances? Or erotica with a happy ending...hard to say.
