Using Quora is as accurate as using Wikipedia or Reddit. All three websites allow ANYONE to post anything, right or wrong, and all are poor sources of information.
If you read the other posts about the forearm tattoos on that same Quora page (again, anyone can post on Quora), some said it was a sign of the top and bottom in gay relationships, one said it indicated preferred sexual partners and fetishes, one post said they come from Polynesian roots as a sign of mourning, one said they just like them, etc.
One post on Reddit (again a poor information source for anything) gives Brent Everett the credit for making the forearm arm band tattoo popular among gay people after he hit the porn scene. Brent Everett had the forearm arm band tattoo in 2004 when he was 19-years-old and made his first porn feature.
I don't have any doubt some guys have the tattoo as a sign of being into fisting. But something tells me that the majority that have them have never considered that as a reason for getting that particular ink. A lot of people get all sorts of tattoos for various reasons. I'm one of them. I have half-sleeves on both arms and they all have a story behind them.
