Nice to meet you all! I'm excited to share stories of my sexual experiences with you all. I will make a firm promise that these are true stories. Of course, in the process of recollection, things get altered or misremembered; and of course, names are anonymized. Regardless, the gist of the story remains true. (I know folks say this a lot even if the true is fictional for the sake of appeal, but I'm committed on this one).
I wanted to share this story because I'm currently planning a solo trip to Austria and Germany and looking at Airbnb rooms. This inspired me to reflect on this really hot experience I had with my Airbnb host back in 2018.
For context. I'm Andrew, Southeast Asian (currently living in the US), 5 feet 11 tall, and on the twinkier side (although I don't think I fit in the twink personality tropes
). I was turning 22 in this story. The host in the story--I'll call him Joseph.
Part 1 ~ "I'm gay too!"
It was the summer of 2018, and I was visiting my home in Southeast Asia and about to head back to the US. Since I have to transit, I decided to stay in Taipei, Taiwan for 4 days before returning. I actually visited Taipei a few months prior as part of my study abroad program in Hong Kong, and I absolutely loved the city and wanted to see more of it! It also definitely helped that a good friend of mine was also working there that summer.
I started to look for an Airbnb in the city, where I found this absolutely gorgeous apartment--really warm and homey decor, and even a little private courtyard. The reviews were incredible, and folks noted how hospitable and sweet the host, Joseph, was. In the profile, he mentioned that he's American but he's lived in Taiwan for a long time. The photo showed him wistfully looking toward the sky, and his hair was curly and light blonde-silver. He was really gorgeous looking, definitely on the older and nerdier side. However, at the time I definitely had zero interest or even idea that he would be someone to potentially pursue. It's inappropriate, right?!?
So I reached out to inquire about the place, and introduced myself as a college student visiting town before heading back to the U.S. After some quick logistical confirmation, I agreed to book. He was, as the reviews had mentioned, immensely friendly and helpful. He gave me some guidance on getting into town via the city train, and we discussed some logistics about a typhoon that was maybe hitting the area. He also mentioned that he was from a U.S. city where my ex was from, so I expressed how much I loved the city and the places we both liked. He then offered to greet me at the train station near the apartment and to give me the keys. It was off to a great and warm start. And again, at this point, still did not think much about this beyond that this guy is so sweet.
Fast forward, and I arrived in Taipei. After a few mishaps with my flight delay and me getting off the wrong station, I made it to the station near the apartment. I climbed up the subway stairs, and saw Joseph standing by the side. He was just like the photo -- curly, light blonde-silver hair, nerdy round glasses, and a radiant smile. We were both sweating in the Taipei humid heat, and parts of his T-shirt were doused in sweat and revealing parts of his shoulder-bone and his chest.
"Hi there! I'm Joseph." Joseph offered his hand. "Glad you made it!"
"Thank you so much for waiting. I'm Andrew." I replied, shaking his hand.
We started walking over to the apartment. Along the way, we started chatting about the typhoon, and also organically started to get to know each other. We got to the apartment, which was absolutely gorgeous as the pictures had shown, and he walked me through the key logistics of the apartment. I was also just glad to be in the AC and cooling off, and I also started to notice him more carefully. He had freckles on his cheek, and a small earring on his left ear. It was around this time where he mentioned that he and his "partner" also helped him run the Airbnb, and that "if I was busy, he would help guests get to the apartment." I was caught of guard, but in a good way. And out of impulse, I blurted:
"Oh, I'm gay too!"
(In retrospect, definitely a bit weird and silly). We paused for a bit, and he smiled at me. There was a surprising shift of sorts--we were suddenly aligned in the same rhythm.
"Well you know, Taiwan is a really gay-friendly place, unusual for Asia. It's a good place to be!" He responded, before mentioning the gay areas in town.
We continued to chat, now with new sparks flying, but my friend arrived to pick me up for dinner. We said goodbye; but before I left, he said:
"Hey, if you would like and don't have any plans yet, I could take you to get stinky tofu nearby. I know a great place!"
"That sounds lovely!" I replied.

I'll continue with Parts 2 and 3 very soon! I realized it's more of a buildup story, and I hope it pays off. <3
See you soon, Andrew
