One nagging question for Puritanical America, why are the guys being tortured in mainstream movies, more often than not, wearing any stitch of clothing? You don't even need to show full blatant frontal nudity, but for the sake of a semblance of reality, strip the guy fully nude. Even just showing him being stripped, clothes shredded, would be good.

Thoughts?

Probably so the movie gets approved by the censors. That's one thing I like about European films; they're not too shy about full-frontal male nudity (as they can get away with it).

Again, the POINT of most movie torture scenes, especially of heroic male/action roles, is to display the men's beautiful body as an object, usually immovable stretched out and chest in closeup. The display is supposed to be PG or G-rated. No sex, no excessive violence, just an invitation to ogle for the adults and an exciting situation for the kids. Full nudity would entirely contradict that goal. Even hard-core torture porn films often present the actors as HOT and shirtless only. See, for example, the opening scene in Saw V, where the hot sweaty fit actor gets disemboweled with a pendulum. He keeps his tight jeans on, however. Full nudity here, even implied, would make the scene far more graphic in terms of violence and humiliation and likely push it to an X rating. (BTW, I sent the actor an message on Twitter a few years back saying how much I appreciated his performance. He wrote back "You made my day.")
