... Imo it's sheer GENIUS. So is Seth Meyers.
...

Yeah, I Subscribe to Seth Meyers' YouTube channel, and he is so often right-on, and usually has interesting guests on his show... But, also, too often, rather shrill... And, sometimes he is so long-winded that I lose interest. Cut to the quick, Seth! Cut to the quick!

IN OTHER NEWS, M. T. Greene apparently took to the House floor today to issue a half-a, lame baked claim that QAnon "MADE her believe things" that weren't true. Marjorie Taylor Greene says she endorsed assassinating Democrats and questioned whether 9/11 happened because QAnon made her 'believe things that weren't true'.

That's the cop-out they're using, after which House Republicans actually gave this hate spewing crackpot who endorsed EXECUTING Democrats and supported a Capitol INSURRECTION to overthrow a presidential election, a STANDING OVATION, once again proving themselves to be the unconscionably spineless b------------ we KNEW they were.

NEWSFLASH: QAnon didn't "make you" do s--------. QAnon gave you PERMISSION to believe things YOU WANTED to believe were true. ...foh.

For just a millisecond, let's accept at face value Greene's claim that QAnon "made her believe things."

Why in the holy fuck should a person that weak-minded hold *any* political office?

You may want to rethink your excuse, Marjorie.

MEANWHILE,

On several occasions past, I've used this thread to call out the political ideologies and idiosyncrasies on the part of SOME of our right winged brothas and sistas - whose political positions and posturing have (imo) seemed to be incongruous to the well being and best interests of minorities in general - those discriminated against and disenfranchised - and Black people in particular.

Hence my latest entry, a story about Texas Republicans who've drafted legislation to allow for Texas to secede from... America:

Texas Republicans endorse legislation to allow vote on secession from US | Texas | The Guardian

A movement defended (on a recent talkshow) by Texas GOP party chairman, Allen West who also:

Earlier ... insisted that “law-abiding states should bond together and form a Union of states that will abide by the constitution”, following a US supreme court ruling to dismiss a lawsuit seeking to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election.
And who also:

was immediately criticized for changing [his] political organization’s slogan [the Texas Republican Party] to “We are the Storm,” in what the New York Times called an “unusually visible example of the Republican party’s dalliance with QAnon”, the conspiracy theory.
All told, and coupled with his rather UNFORTUNATE political and ideological statements and affiliations (see: Allen West (politician) - Wikipedia ) strikes ME that perhaps he's a person... "confused" (yes, that's it) ... if not uninformed as to what kind of sentiment he, by his very presence, lends CREDENCE to, and what kind of people are AMONG those who SUBSCRIBE to it.

Maybe if he availed himself of outbursts like THIS, he'd be better informed:

'Vile and disgusting': Shockingly racist letter from a Baptist author leaves Black pastor stunned - Raw Story

Although I must ADD, that that good Rev. McKissic HIMSELF perhaps shouldst not protest TOO loudly, considering he himself was once the purveyor of some rather MEAN SPIRITED pronouncements directed at New Orleans and its people in the wake of Katrina.

Which just goes to show that sometimes the HATE some endorse has a way of coming around right back atcha, and biting you in the a----.

Thousands Urge US Senate To ‘Save America’ As Trump’s Impeachment Trial Looms - UNILAD

#SaveAmerica has been trending on Twitter as thousands of citizens – many of them claiming to be Republicans themselves – urge senators to put their party loyalty aside for the sake of the country. Behind the hashtag is conservative anti-Trump political group The Lincoln Project – established in 2019 by KellyAnne Conway’s husband George Conway – which has been attempting to persuade Republican senators to vote to convict Trump, claiming that not doing so will threaten American democracy.

GOP Representative: "My fellow Republicans, convicting Trump is necessary to save America"

On the eve of the second Senate impeachment trial of Donald Trump. Rep. Adam Kinzinger has gone where few in the GOP have dared to go. In an op-ed piece in the Washington Post, the Illinois representative declared unequivocally that Senate Republicans must vote to convict Trump “to save America.”

In the video below (that I also referenced in another thread) Seth Meyers correctly observes how failing to hold Republicans accountable for the s------ they DO, can and HAVE had repercussions down the line. And they do and say the things they do because they've long GOTTEN AWAY WITH IT. Because Democrats brought knives to a gunfight. Will they ever LEARN?

Democrats drop the ball on Trump's second impeachment before the trial even begins

The right's hatred of AOC isn't just racism and sexism: It sums up the entire toxic Trump era | Salon.com

Last week, on the verge of Donald Trump's second impeachment trial, Republicans and their hate media launched a coordinated attack on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the New York progressive Democrat.

Why? Because she publicly shared the emotional trauma that she and many others suffered during and after the Jan. 6 mob attack on the Capitol — and because she compared that to her personal history as a survivor of sexual assault.

As Salon's Amanda Marcotte observed, the "targets of right-wing mockery aren't usually people traumatized by car accidents or combat experiences, but people whose trauma is politically uncomfortable for conservatives."

Such mockery is often "leveraged against victims of sexual violence, as happened when Donald Trump made fun of Christine Blasey Ford for her story of being sexually assaulted by now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh." Marcotte continued:

Mostly, conservatives who engage in victim-mockery tend to keep it in their own spaces... where they can high-five each other for their abusive behavior without drawing the attention of others who rightfully will be grossed out by it.

But after the Capitol insurrection of January 6, this habit of reflexively mocking and denying the pain of trauma victims is being rolled out for a more national audience, as Republicans frantically try to minimize the violence of that day, looking to deflect from their own complicity in both causing and excusing it.

After Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., took to Instagram to detail her horrific experiences during the insurrection, the right-wing noise machine moved into action, deploying the usual sexist stereotypes about hysterical, manipulative, deceitful women typically employed to discredit victims of rape or sexual harassment.

These most recent attacks on Ocasio-Cortez — a favorite punching-bag of the right ever since she came to national prominence — are more than an example of bullying, crude and antisocial behavior.

They are an illustration of how today's Republican Party has already embraced the worst kind of political deviance, and a warning of the even more extreme fascist and authoritarian dangers to come.

And that's just for starters. Read the rest of this article that outlines how Trumpist Republicans and their neofascist followers and believers see the world

TELLING IT LIKE IT IS:

Republicans Have Emerged From The Capitol Insurrection United Against Democracy | HuffPost

As the riot in the Capitol played out, even the GOP lawmakers who helped incite it briefly attempted to distance themselves from the mess they had created. But rather than a reckoning, the Republican Party is attempting a purge.

From Congress to state legislatures, and in the state- and county-level parties that make up its base, the GOP’s rank and file has emerged from an insurrection and a second impeachment trial united against American democracy and the few members of the party still willing to stand up for it.
In effect, making every ONE of them a co-conspirator in insurrection and treason.

BLOWBACK:

Trump hotel employees say they had to pretend to support him: 'Inside I was dying'
Workers at Trump's D.C. restaurant say suppliers would deliberately send them rotten produce

LAGNIAPPE - Excerpts from another Shower Cap Blog:

Sewage Dunk Tank With Ted Cruz Week is the Best Week - Shower Cap Blog

Mitch McConnell decided that what the moment cried out for was a Mitch McConnell speech, an error he’s made with alarming frequency over the course of his insidious career. So, in the immediate aftermath of his feckless caucus’ latest refusal to defend the nation, Yertle delivered his jeremiad, on the topic of how Hairplug Himmler was indeed guilty of everything he stood accused of, while the entire fucking world screamed in perfect unison BITCH YOU JUST VOTED TO ACQUIT HIM.

Now, I’ve learned to tune Mitch’s sanctimony out, but this one was a bit hard to sit through. That mob that nearly tore you limb from limb? You built that, bro. Donald Trump never comes to power without Mitch McConnell first breaking Washington with the nefarious politics of Deliberately Inflicting Suffering on the American People Rather Than Allowing the Other Party to Help Them.

And now that he’s got his judges and his robber baron tax cuts, Wrinkly Gamera is ready to move on, as though his years of cynical, transactional enabling haven’t unleashed an army of frenzied brownshirts the rest of us have to deal with every goddamn day in our communities. Mr. Minority Leader, you of all men are not allowed to appropriate Resistance culture.

Of course the seven Republican Senators who took those first halting steps out of the primordial swamp of Trumpism ... faced all kinds of arcane pagan excommunication rituals initiated by their home state parties.

Bonus points to whichever local MAGA archbishop anathematized Pat Toomey, for the demented honesty of his proclamation that “we did not send him there to do the right thing or whatever;” I think it’s useful to be frank about where everyone stands, though I’m unsure why you believe a Senator’s primary function is to help the world’s shittiest businessman commit crimes.

And did you see that fucking letter Adam Kinzinger got from his Blood Type KKKool-Aid family? Holy shit. I keep hearing about how much REALER than me these people are, that their experience is somehow more authentically American than mine, that their beliefs are nobler, purer, just flat-out bald eaglier than mine, but what they’re doing here is like if somebody in, say, October of 2001, got all up in your shit and started shrieking at you for refusing to take Bin Laden’s side.

Oh Adam, why can’t you be a dutiful death cult company man like Ron Johnson? RoJo doesn’t understand why everybody’s making such a big deal about that silly “Capitol riot,” why, that white supremacist lynch mob was barely even armed!

Word! And now this:

On TRUTH

No Truth, No Justice – Mother Jones

“Democracy needs a ground to stand upon. And that ground is the truth.”

"It will be tempting for many in the media to move on from Trump, especially during this interlude of relative silence from the man himself. But our democracy can’t afford that—not when we have so much more work on the systemic failures that brought him to power. Lack of accountability means impunity, and impunity means it will happen again."
