In the other thread, it was answered that most post-op trans women do see a gynecolegist. I have a follow-up question. Why? The "vagina" is cosmetic/vestigial, is constructed of penile tissue, there are no female reproductive organs, nothing on which to perform a pap smear examination, so wouldn't a urologyst be more appropriate? Is it because seeing specialists for the birth sex is demoralizing? If so, is the psychological satisfaction more important than seeing a specialist who actually specializes in your actual parts? Wouldn't it be better to have a proctologist or an internist do a prostate exam? What is the point?

well not all gynocologists are trained in post srs treatment. But the ones you would have wpuld check to issue there in no infection, ensure everything is healing well. Usually this person (obgyn) also is the one who prescribes you your meds and monitors your homrone levels etc. So they aren't there just to be a gynocologist. They are there to help you through your transition and are trained in those specifics.
