Ring Fit Adventure

Alright, bear with me, this is my first time making a thread in this section.

Ahem. Please do not turn this thread into Show Off or this random Insta "model" is hot or fappin' in the gym shower.

There's a video game that got released recently called Ring Fit Adventure. It comes with a resistance band and a leg strap. The Nintendo Switch's controllers slot into them, and the console reads the motion sensors. The IR sensor on one of the controllers can even gauge your heart rate. The game has an adventure mode, mini games, and you can even work with the resistance band while the game is off and it will keep track for the next time you play. I won't link the game trailer here, as it's a Nintendo product and well, obviously part of their demographic is on the younger side. If you're curious, there are plenty of videos up on YouTube.

I'm admittedly a bit lazy (working on that) and a stereotypical "nerd" as far as not exercising a whole lot. I've been doing some daily stretching along with occasionally doing a beginner aerobic routine and am going to pick the Ring Fit game up this weekend. So far everyone that I've seen playing the game has worked up a pretty serious sweat, including a live streamer whose usual stream activity is hitting the gym.

I was curious as to if anyone else is going to be playing this game to use as part of their being healthier/more fit routine? If you have played it, what are your thoughts so far? The game art style does look a bit, well, cartoon-y but the exercises seem pretty legit. Squats, arm presses, etc. One of the reviews I saw it was comparing the resistance band the game has versus a pilates one, and said the Nintendo one felt sturdier.

I used to go to the gym 2-3 times a week, walked a ton, all that fun shit. Then I had a surgery, some health things, and turned into a lazy bum. I took some ultra unflattering photos in short shorts and a sports bra so that I can have a marker for what I look like now, and after maybe a month of playing the game, I'll try taking comparison photos to see how things are going. I'll update the thread with my experiences and would enjoy hearing from others too, if anyone else is playing.

Edit: Just in case someone asks, nah, you do not get to see my ultra unflattering selfies :p Those are for myself. If I get supah sexy I'll update my gallery maybe.

A YouTube video game dude I follow did a review of the game, along with his personal trainer :)

As long as you stick with it and the game adjusts to your fitness level increasing you should see some results.
I remember xbox one used to have an awesome fitness game where the camera showed your hot zones and told you to punch or kick higher.
What sucks is they took the Xbox fitness app down, but it was a great workout.

It does have varying difficulty/intensity that you can pick from. When you're calibrating the motion sensors to how you jog in place and such it also asks your age, gender, approximate weight, activity level compared to others in your demographic, etc. I think it has something like intensity scaling from 1 to 30? It gauges your form too, shows what muscle groups you're working, and all sorts of stuff.

I was kind of hoping some others might be playing/using it too is all

My wife wants a switch and this might help motivate her to lose some weight (she wants to but gets bored w regular workouts).

Thankfully I already had a Switch, but this fitness game is something I'm more excited about than the Pokemon Sword/Shield coming out in November... and I've been a Pokemon fan since the first generation.

Back when I was more active I really liked how I felt. Now? I'm for body positivity and all that, but for myself I am not at all where I want to be. It does look like the quiet mode in Ring Fit (good for if you live in an apartment or play at weird hours) makes you do mini squats during all the less active bits, so it's a good thing I like squats :joy:

I do kettlebells, maces and clubs outside, but with winter coming it's tough to do indoors lol.
She wants animal crossing and I usually play xbone.
But it's awesome the technology is there to help keep people active.

Well, fuck. My sweetie went to our local Target yesterday and they were sold out. Hopefully we can find a copy of the game this weekend at a GameStop or something  I just want to get my fitness on while playing a game, darn it!

Found a copy

I only played for about 30 minutes of active exercise (so not counting time in menus and such) and I am rekt. Legs are shaky, got all sweaty, and all of that fun stuff. I'm already looking forward to playing/exercising more tomorrow, though!

It looks like great fun!!

I didn't know they had games like that for the Switch; I though it ended with the Wii. But then I forgot that the Joy-cons have motion capabilities...

Wishing you well on your goals and hope you have fun!

My dumb ass rested a bit yesterday and went "Ooh this was fun, I'm going to play some more!"

... I am so sore today

I played/exercised for about 30 minutes today. I was still sore from Saturday, but I want to play at least every other day. As I've gotten a bit further into the game, it's unlocking more/different exercises that you can do. Since movement on silent mode is mini squats, all of the combat that you do via exercises you choose? I've been picking upper body and core mostly.

@Guy-jin has been playing too
