Speedo / Jammer Sizing

I have decided to start adding swimming to my workouts. My gym has a great pool that is heavily used by people training for triathalons along with the normal lap swimmer.

The vast majority of the guys swim in jammers, either black or dark blue, with the occaional light blue or red. I think I am going to go with either black or blue in an effort to blend it.

So here is my question, what is the proper way to size for jammers? I have read different sizing guides and some say to drop 1-2 sizes, others to buy your exact waist size, and some say to go up one size. It is very confusing. I have a 32" waist.

I would assume that for the beginner trainer like me, I would not be too concerned with getting a suit that is extremely tight since I am not competing.

Plus, I do not want to feel like my junk is squashed to death. I see some of these guys in their suits and there isn't even a clue that they are a dude. I swear, it looks like someone chopped that stuff right off. Maybe I am just ignorant about how they are supposed to fit, but that does not seem comfortable at all.

If it makes any difference, the two brands I am looking at are Speedo and Nike.

If u were here in Europe, speedo swim briefs would be order of the day. Make a statement, start a trend!
(Unless you are XL when harder to hide your shaft)

I thought about it. But I while learning, it would be better not to draw too much attention by being different. After I get better and look like I know what I am doing, it is a possibility.

And I would not say I am XL. Usually between 6.5-7" soft. Not XL on this board, anyway.

I'd say speedo is a true fit, but not lots of room for big guys up front so maybe a size bigger for comfort, many people who train hard will wear looser swimwear to train than they do to compete as it causes drag and so makes it seem easier to swim when competing.
Adidas tend to be a small fit, nike i don't know, asi dont sell those.

Most sites have a sizing guide as part of their FAQ; if not check to see if they have a toll free number and you can call customer service to see if they run true to size etc. I recommend buying your waist size (32) or a medium.

There are some that go for $200-300. Those are meant to be used only during races. The ones I am looking at are more of the $30-50 range.

And I am not going to be competing or anything. I am just getting into swimming for something to add to my workouts, so I think fit and comfort would be more important that something with too much compression. But I don't know, that's why I am asking.

For example:
Nike fit guide says a 32" waist should buy size 28
Speedo says to go 2-4 inches smaller than waist
Tyr says to buy exact.

I do not know if they are recommending these sizes for competition or just training.

just thinking as you are in usa maybe these sites are guiding you for converting from european sizes as a large in uk is med in usa etc,and the opposite if item in from asia, I'd have thought inches measured same around the world tho lol.
Racers do get as small as they can fit in usually,
any decent shop should let you try on with something under them so remember to put some underwear on that day.

I wear either 34 or 36 in pants (depending on the brand) and I have a size 36 Jammer (mine actually says 36 on the label) and it fits pretty tight on me so I would say get a size 32. I you want it a little looser try a 33 but they are supposed to fit skin tight and keep your junk in place. I just measured across the top of the waistband on my Jammer with a tape measure and it measures 15" (unstretched).

The Speedo brief I am wearing in the pic in my album is a 36 also.

Sizing will be difficult i was one that followed nike size guidelines being a 32 waist and a 28 was way way way way too small... So small the fabric stretched so much that it became see through. I here swimoutlet.com is the best place but tvr and speedo are closed to actual fit sizing

speedo brand is super tight.. do not downsize.. maybe even upsize a size

Nike is my favorite and they fit pretty true to size. I'm a 32 and if i'm relaxing I'll wear a 32, though at the gym i usually wear a 30, it allows for the fabric to stretch when wet and over time the fabric naturally loosens up.

definitely don't by a 28 nike for a 32 waist it would be too small.

speedo is super tight

tyr haven't bought one in awhile but always found them similar to nike in sizing

def consider going with a real speedo.. as i think the tackle shows less in real speedos than it does in jammers

i recommend going 1-2 inches smaller for sure. once they are wet they sag and feel a lot looser. I buy 30" jeans (slim/straight, and don't need a belt at all), and recently bougth 30" jammers, and they feel too big when wet. My previous pair were 28 or 29 and fit perfectly. Lost em though.

definitely go a touch smaller from your true size (if you wear baggy jeans with lots of room thats not your true size.

nothing is going to crush your junk, don't worry. its suppose to be tight but comfortable thats the whole point. otherwise wear trunks

It all depends on your level of comfort in the speedos. I'm a college swimmer and most of the guys on the team order a size below for competition. Some guys get the same size as there pants to train in but no one goes above. But it all depends on your level of comfort, most of us have been wearing speedos for years and have gotten used to it

Speedo and Nike tend to run true to size. Some brands do not. If you get them from Swimoutlet.com you can read the comments from other people who bought them. If they overwhelmingly say that they are too tight, then buy one size up.
