Hi,

I just want to know what are the general or implicit rules that most of the guys follow when you enter an open shower with other guys…

Also is it good to start chatting with some other guy there or is it automatically considered gay? If you are alone can you start trying to make friends? Or is it weird?

Is it not good to enter with an erection or depends of the context?

Cheers

1. choose the shower head that’s farthest away

2. not necessarily gay to start up a conversation but would be awkward and creepy (unless over the age of 75 or 80. Those old goats don’t give a damn).

3. Enter with a erection? Why? Are you a pervert?

In my experience, urinal etiquette applies. Imagine all the showerheads are urinals. You wouldn't walk into a shower room and pick a shower right next to someone when there's ones not next to someone available. Also, talking is generally kept to a minimum unless you're friends with the other person. The shower I had used most often was in a very old building, and it was common to let everyone in the shower know when you were going to turn yours on, so they'd be prepared for a possible change in temperature. That was the bulk of the talking unless guys obviously knew each other.

My answer would be split by how well you know the other people you’re sharing the shower with. The below is only my experience.

People you don’t know:
No chat
Pick a shower head opposite and reasonably far away. Furthest away seems kind of weird.
Face away from the others as much as possible.
If you get an erection, cover it or make it go away.

With people you are know / comfortable with:
Chat is totally normal.
Don’t choose the shower next to them but don’t leave a huge space.
Face the wall / stand neutrally.
Don’t spend too much time making eye contact / looking at each other.

People you are very comfortable with / you shower with regularly (eg teammates):
Pick any shower head. If showering all at same time, you’ll probably end up next to someone anyway.
Chat freely and normally.
Specifically don’t face away from people as it looks like you’re hiding something.
Make as much eye contact as feels natural.
Join in in the banter!
If you get a boner - it happens! You’ll get teased but it’s normal. Don’t hide it as it will only draw more attention!

Correction,

to enter with an accidental erection…

thanks

Haha no, I mean accidental boner

Erections will be weird. If you have one, better wait 5 minutes until it goes away. If you get hard while showering, that will be extra weird. Then, be fast and try to leave as soon as possible.

Besides, I cannot add much, it is like being in a lift: you try to be as neutral as possible, avoid eye contact, avoid minding anything that is not your business, and not more conversation that what is essentially required.

My question would be as to how someone could get even an "accidental" erection while showering, particularly with a bunch of other guys?

Even in my younger days of spontaneous boners with no known cause, I don't ever recall getting one even when showering alone as my main purpose was to get washed. The only exception was when I showered with my wife and then it was obviously due to arousal.

Therefore, I think most straight men might be of the mindset to view any guy getting a chub in a communal shower setting with suspicion as unless he's not looking or thinking about the other nude men around him, there really should be no reason to get even semi-aroused. In other words, "accidental" erections are no accident.

While my experience with open showers has been limited to a military setting, unwritten etiquette dictated give others adequate space, no staring and minimal conversation, usually limited to the standard complaining about one sergeant or another or some other asinine procedure. In other words, do your business and get out. I never saw another guy with an erection, "accidental" or otherwise, even although like most guys, I was not noticing other dude's junk close enough to claim it never happened.

I understand your point, and I grow up too with a little military set too. But now when I growed up I think I am more relaxed about that military setting.

But as someone mention before, in terms of washing, could not be normal to have a semi or complete erection while washing the glans for example? I used to have it when I am alone and completely not thinking in something sexual or erotic, simply washing your glans and head of penis with soap for example.

So that is what I call the unintentional erection or semi washing your complete penis and head, being cut or uncut too.

That would be weird, as I said. I mean, if the guy was trying to cover or running to get his towel, OK. But he is clearly showing off.

I would consider that very innapropriate and rude.
Ok, I see. Is it valid to think he was finishing washing his glans and trunk for example? Probably the reason he get semi or erected?
