I know you are going to hate this - but keep busy with other people and things. Things are not likely going to change as they are.

I am sincerely sorry for what you are going through. It's very difficult. Sometimes it's someone that you cannot ignore or avoid. If you can, you should probably do it. They say "times heals all" - no one ever defined how much time.

Usually people fixate on someone because that person ticks the most boxes from the people they know.

The cure for this is to meet new people and in particular people who are actually interested in you in return. It may take some time but at least you aren't wasting time on something that will never happen.
