hello everyone!

so a couple of days ago, i finally deleted grindr from my phone after experiencing a period of utter ridiculousness....

anyone who uses grindr has probably noticed that the spammers have right and truly infested the app... so much, that their moderation team (which is a joke) are deleting/banning flagged profiles without even investigating them....

i had 4 separate accounts deleted in 2 weeks, starting with the one i had for FIVE YEARS.... and when i contacted the moderators, they told me that accounts are deleted without investigating if they feel like it, and that there would be no reinstatement.... what's even more irksome is that paid members are also getting banned with no investigation, and grindr has had to give out a plethora of refunds....

has anyone else given up on grindr because of this? are any of you reading this a paid member who had to get a refund? if so, i say GOOD RIDDANCE TO GRINDR!!!!!

i want them to crash and burn.....

I had one profile for two years get banned without an explanation beyond "violating terms of service." Next profile lasted not even a week, next one maybe a week. I was told that third profile was banned for "discriminatory language in my bio." I basically said I didn't want creepy old men ("ageism") messaging me or anyone offering to pay me (I don't go on grindr for that, I can get escort clients elsewhere, grindr is for when I want casual fun) (my bio was flagged for saying "no escorts"), and that I'm not into women or trans (I was getting a lot of them messaging me, some even spamming with repetitive messages/pics and was told I was being "sexist/transphobic" ...cust support finally replies, "Grindr is an inclusive community. Don't say what you don't like, say what you do like"). So now I have a blank profile with no stats, no bio, no pics and not messaging anyone and I'm gonna see if they ban that. Then I'll know they are just banning any profile from my IP.

For my two year profile, I was banned for impersonation (lots of sore losers reporting me because I didn't reply or I said I wasn't interested), and they asked to send a pic of my holding my ID with a paper with the date on it, and my grindr email TWICE in six months. They reinstated it both times but is just moronic the way they ban people just on a whim without even responding to requests as to why one was banned.

I've reported spam accounts with links to websites that want credit card info, drug dealers, soliciting sex for money, screenshots of where a user got fake pics and sometimes even DMs from the real guys saying that grindr account is fake, and I'll see those accounts still in my message history, still not banned even a week or more after I reported them.

Yes there's been so many spam lately. For an app that was sold for $155 million, they really need to hire people to actually moderate the app for the spam.

As a black guy, closeted and obese, Grindr was never a good app for me... the short time I used it the way people "chatted" was abhorrent. The constant reminders of not being wanted in profiles. The amount of bots. How rude people were... good riddance.

thanks for the responses! i personally think people should just stop using grindr instead of constantly creating new profiles.... there are so many better apps out there that are more carefully moderated, and not so politically correct that people canèt express themselves.... i used to moderate dating websites before smartphones and apps even existed, and i can honest;y say that of all the services i have used, grindr has the worst business practices and the dumbest mods.... they probably aren't even gay or men.... or human.... sadly, automation has taken the context out of the things we say.... as for the DL/looks/weight/ethnicity thing, well i can only say that there are apps specifically geared to bigger guys and the guys who like them.... an app called growlr is pretty good.... bear411 is alright too.... i have since reactivated my SCRUFF and hornet accounts, and will see how they populate now that the grindr exodus has begun....

Grindr spam are out of control. Like post above said, those other apps tend to be for specific type of guys. Wish they have another one for a more generally all type of guys

I just deleted my Grindr profile for good the other day, The reporting that they sell your locational information in violation of various laws in different countries made me decide to bail. Essentially, they were selling your home GPS coordinates to marketers and anyone else who wanted to know you’re swiping for guys. No loss, it’s run its course for me, and I prefer Scruff.

I don’t see much bots
What pisses me off are the abundant of ads that appear for clicking just about anything. It’s ridiculous. Even swiping through pics I get ads.

j joined scruff when i deleted grindr as it seems to be the next popular app.... i also use adam4adam, but prefer to use the mobile website to the app.... very user friendly, and there's plenty of all kind of guys.... and with adblock plus on my browser, i don't see any ads on adam4adam.... maybe i'll see some of you there sometime!

I deleted that app years ago along with scruff. It seems that the quality of people local to me has gone downhill. They want money, they want to be picked up, or they want drugs. No one appreciates the freedom of being a functional adult that has a job, owns a car, and doesn't need to trade sex for meth.

I think all above. Either want money or ghosted. Also what's up with everyone doing parTy now lol

I don't get it either. It's like people can't even have sex if drugs aren't involved. It's sad and makes me wonder what they are trying to escape from.

eh, the issues I'm seeing is also the lack of willingness to meet up in person.

This. As people have been given the convenience of being able to browse hundreds of guys from their home - even being totally anonymous if they choose - no one is interested in any potential real life connection. The fallacy of choice is so prevalent on dating apps and worst amongst gay men. Everyone thinks that the next best or a better person is just a click away. And it’s so easy to just stop responding to someone rather than try and build a connection. So frustrated with all “gay online dating”

Another problem with Grindr - people have the expectation that you should drop what you are doing and fuck them or they’ll never speak to you again. Like hey I’m interested, but how about a modicum of planning. The best way to get what you want when you want it is to invest a little time upfront

Grindr has become full of guys looking for money, wanting to parTy, only collecting pics or ghosting.

I live in a bigger college town, so I get lots of guys who cannot host and cannot travel. I'm not sure what they are expecting, but if they cannot host and they cannot travel, what is left?

Car, library, private study rooms, secluded place outside, restroom, etc. Plenty of places to give discreet blowjobs, handjobs in a university. At least, that's what guys who can't travel are often to compromise with IME, if they are too nervous to go to my place.

I get that part, but when they next tell me that they cannot travel either, I don't get that part.
