Typical of their backward ass MENTALITY. As I keep saying, in their alternate reality BIZARRO WORLD, everything is the opposite of normal. Hence why (in THEIR universe) making it easier to vote is "Jim Crow 2.0," our nation's most respected health care advisor "paid for the creation of Covid 19," "normal wage levels" are below a liveable wage, and "stop the steal" is actually an all out right winged EFFORT TO STEAL elections. Then they get mad because WE don't fall for that bullshit.

Democratic lawmakers make efforts to expand voting access:

BUT Republicans fight against them tooth and nail:

In another thread ("Of Swine, Sycophants... Enemies of the State") I wrote of how the Heritage Foundation and their many spinoffs, associate entities et al were the REAL DEEP STATE, all their blather to the contrary being nothing more than their typical smoke and mirror act to get people looking the OTHER WAY.

It was they, and their cohorts who drew up "blueprints" for a Republican ANTI-DEMOCRACY state, they who manipulated law and legislation toward those ends, they who recommended far right conservative judicial appointments, they who were literally the ARCHITECTS of right winged ideology and dog whistle, racist terminology and propaganda.

And it has now been revealed, it is ALSO they who've been the masterminds behind right winged VOTER SUPPRESSION "laws" and other FASCIST forms of legislation that disenfranchises minority voters, impedes access to voting, and even goes so far as to enable Republicans to contravene, throw out, and overrule not only elections, but voter approved propositions and mandates as well.

It IS, as one columnist described it, nothing less than THE CONTINUATION OF THE JAN 6 INSURRECTION VIA LEGISLATION.

Or to put it bluntly: A FKNG COUP.

I sometimes track the progress of threads here in the Politics forum, and I must admit I'm rather taken aback by the fact that, what in my opinion, is probably the most QUINTESSENTIAL FACTOR that will determine the survival of America as a democracy, the Republican attack upon the RIGHT TO VOTE, doesn't seem to get much play.

I don't quite know if that's because of a certain degree of confidence that Republican efforts to undermine the vote won't matter, or what. But as suggested in the last linked article above (and in some of the others below) there is MUCH to be concerned about:

The numbers are grim. Republicans are winning at normalizing voter suppression | David Sirota | The Guardian

Column: Trump couldn't steal the election in 2020. His allies are laying the groundwork to try again

Illinois' Supreme Court elections could lead to a decade of GOP minority rule unless Democrats act

MEANWHILE in Arizona:

Arizona election auditors found the voting data that Trump claimed had been destroyed as part of a plot to deprive him of victory

Arizona may have to replace compromised voting machines examined by Pro-Trump "auditors"-- and on taxpayers' dime!

Meet the familiar faces who went from boosting 2020 election conspiracies to hyping the Arizona audit

Exactly. Their claim of fraud is only a smokescreen for the FRAUD they've been perpetrating. If they weren't so fkng DETESTABLE they wouldn't have to cheat to WIN.

‘This is outrageous!’ Morning Joe thumps Arizona for letting conspiracy theorists tamper with voting machines before 2022 elections - Raw Story

The state's top election official urged Maricopa County to replace hundreds of voting machines that had been examined by the Cyber Ninjas firm as part of the GOP-backed review of Donald Trump's election loss, which the "Morning Joe" host said never should have happened in the first place.

"This is outrageous," Scarborough said. "It used a company that had a CEO that actually endorsed all of these false claims that the election was stolen, and now that these machines have been placed into a conspiracy theorist's hand and a guy who is a grifter and has been a grifter, it would be irresponsible and reckless for Maricopa County to do anything else but get completely new machines.

This grift is going to cost them millions and millions of dollars, and for elections to come, because they haven't had custody of these machines."

What's more, the b----------ds are expanding their SCAM to other states, and like in Arizona, they're raking in MONEY under fraudulent claims of needing funding for what's already funded by TAXPAYERS.

Georgia Judge Allows Fulton County Ballots to Be Examined for Fraud

A Georgia judge will allow absentee ballots from the 2020 election to be unsealed to have them examined for possible fraud.

In granting the motion on Friday, Henry County Superior Court Judge Brian Amero agreed to open 145,000 absentee ballots from Fulton County as part of a review into the 2020 election, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

One of the plaintiffs requesting to do an audit of Fulton County's results is Garland Favorito, the co-founder of a group called Voters Organized for Trusted Election Results in Georgia. Favorito is currently soliciting donations to fund the effort on social media, and on Thursday tweeted, "Dear #VoterGa supporters, Please send money. Thanks! Garland."

Georgia election officials have extensively refuted claims that any malicious activity occurred at the arena, which was monitored via surveillance cameras.

The assault upon the right to vote AS WELL AS legitimate votes and election outcomes THEY don't like, CONTINUES:

Republicans find new weapon to lock in power for generations - Raw Story

GOP lawmakers in Florida, Idaho, South Dakota and other states have passed laws limiting the use of ballot initiatives, which have allowed voters to bypass state legislatures to enact laws that have allowed Democrats in conservative states to advance their agendas, reported the New York Times.

"They have implemented web after web of technicalities and hurdles that make it really hard for community-based groups to qualify for the ballot and counter why ballot initiatives were created in the first place," said Chris Melody Fields Figueredo, executive director of the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center. "This is directly connected to every attack we've seen on our democracy."

Republicans have so far this year introduced 144 bills to restrict the ballot initiative processes in 32 states, and 19 of those have been signed into law by GOP governors.

OK I will play

Just WHAT will "they" consider "illegally cast" and HOW will that be "determined" and just as important WHO will make that determination ??

As reported in this evenings national news, this draconian, restrictive, Jim Crow kind of bullshit voter suppression legislation is the most restrictive in the country. According to reports, the law, among other measures designed to deprive mostly minority people of our right to vote, ALSO reportedly allows a Texas judge to just outright OVERTURN an election, even if there's no evidence to justify it. Question being, how far is America prepared to let these fascist go?

MEANWHILE:

Jeffries: Republicans 'want to make it harder to vote and easier to steal an election' | TheHill

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) on Sunday said Republicans in Texas and nationwide “want to make it harder to vote and easier to steal an election” after the Texas Senate passed a sweeping voting restrictions bill.

“The Texas law is shameful, and Republicans clearly in Texas and throughout the country want to make it harder to vote and easier to steal an election. That's the only way that I can interpret the voter suppression epidemic that we see working its way from one state, Georgia to Arizona to Texas, and all across the country, in so many different ways,” Jeffries told host Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“Fundamental to our democracy is the right to vote, self-government, that the American people get to decide and work for a democracy that reflects the voices of all Americans, not just a certain segment, not just conservatives, not just Republicans, not just people in certain parts of the country, all Americans,” he added.

Conservative columnist: Republicans have gone from 'stop the steal' to 'start the steal'

On Tuesday, writing for The Washington Post, conservative columnist Max Boot outlined how Republicans are rapidly moving from conspiracy theories about how the election was stolen from Donald Trump, to making active plans to steal the next one.

"Republicans have spent nearly seven months making bogus charges of fraud in the 2020 election under the banner of 'stop the steal.' Now they have segued into a 'start the steal' offensive to ensure that they will win the 2022 and 2024 elections — even if most voters once again support the Democratic Party," wrote Boot.

Analysis: How the Supreme Court has tilted election law to favor the Republican Party

This year's wave of new voting restrictions across the South may seem a response to the 2020 election, but its origins stem in no small part from the Supreme Court, which over the last decade has reshaped election law to elevate the power of state lawmakers over the rights of their voters.

Under Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., the Supreme Court threw out the part of the Voting Rights Act requiring states with histories of discriminating against Black voters to clear election rule changes with the U.S. Justice Department. Writing for a 5-4 majority in 2013, Roberts called the section outdated and said it did not fit with "current conditions."
