Speaking of John-Boy, I don't have much to add. The earlier post with Richard Thomas and Will Geer mooning the camera after sitting in the pond are captured stills from a video, I added it below.

The clip is very short and the quality is shit, from what I understand it was one scene from a blooper reel (you can watch the full thing on YouTube) which was part of a TV special that aired back in the late 70's and was only ever shown on TV that once, so the recording is just something that someone happened to have saved for decades who was lucky enough to have a Betamax recorder back in the 70's and there's no better version. The clearer pictures are from the same episode the blooper came from.

I've read that there was a lot of mooning pranks by the older men when they had scenes without the kids, during downtime, mostly at Michael Learned's expense. This clip was supposed to have been Will and Richard mooning a Studio Tour Group passing through the set waiting for a scene to be reset.

Some of the other Richard Thomas pictures in this thread come from the film September 30, 1955. Another one that shows a lot of him is pre-Waltons and called That Summer, there's no nudity but the cast spends most of the movie on the beach.

In watching reruns on MEtv an episode the other day had Ike Godsey playing thirst trap..haha. The main story deals with John-Boy coming back from the war and struggling with PTSD. The subplot deals with Ike Godsey finding out he is (mistakenly) drafted.

This is a later season episode and is the first one with fake John-Boy (Robert Wightman) which I forgot all about until re-watching. But it's Ike Godsey's scene in the recruitment office that is interesting. He comes in in just a towel and it's jarring because you don't see Ike that ever in the series. Not saying he's suddenly an attractive guy just because he took his shirt off, but it puts a person in a new perspective when you see them uncharacteristically out of their usual state.

It reminds me of Dabney Coleman in Modern Problems.. I never thought much about him, except that he was hilarious as the jerk in almost every movie he was in. But seeing his nude scene in that movie changed the perspective from then on.

IF anyone watches (insanely) closely lol, there IS a GAY man in an episode, though it's only suggested never verbalized. Its an episode where JohnBoy breaks away and must live in a rooming house in the city, he lives on sandwiches from home in his room since he can't afford the Board only the Room.
When he arrives all cute and tossled, the other boarders are in the dining room eating, he stands there as the landlady introduces them; mostly traveling salesmen.. Mr so and so, hardware. Mr so and so, bibles, AND Mr so and so, LADIES DRESSES. AND THE MIDDLE AGED BOW-TIED MAN DAINTILY LOWERS HIS GLASSES AND DOES ALL BUT LICK HIS CHOPS AS HE TAKES JOHN BOY IN FROM HEAD TO TOE.

Ralph Waite

Been watching The Waltons on MEtv a lot lately and gravitated to this thread. I guess I always noticed John-Boy in watching when I was younger in reruns in the 80's, as an adult I still see the attraction there but realized I was sleeping on Ralph Waite's attractiveness in my teens back then.

The posts from Cool Hand Luke are something I was thinking of posting but saw the solitary confinement scene was already here. He had a small part in the group shower scene as well which I added here, not as revealing as the other scene but interesting all the same.
