Practice by walking around barefoot on the balls of your feet.
Start with wedges or chunky heels if you can. My first heels were shiny white stripper go go boots as a part of a cheerleader Halloween costume. Even though they had a serious block heel, which made side to side wobble better, they pushed me forward, throwing my balance off. Once i got to the party, I leaned the first trick is to walk in a straight line. Pick a spot and go to it. Changing direction throws off your balance that you have not mastered.
Stilettos are the fem of fem, but you will want to build up your balance and ankle strength. The balancing act with stilettos is more sensitive, and you will really understand that straight lines are the way to start.
So the next trick with heels is not looking down. Chin up and look forward. Guys bodies are designed differently, wearing heels throws off our center of gravity. Try to feel your center of gravity at just above the hips by pulling your shoulders back. Lean back. You really want to be very straight, but at first it will feel like you are leaning way back. As one of my girl friends said, project your uterus forward, because the whole point of suffering through heels is to fill that uterus. You really want to be standing up straight, but in the beginning it will feel like you are leaning back and pushing your hips and lower belly out.
If you try rushing or running in heels, you will feel your neck craning forward. Again its all about posture and balance.
Keep your elbows closer to your waist.
Guys tend to walk flat footed.guys tend to walk flat footed, putting their heels and toes down at the same time. You want to do heel to toe. If you are walking on a solid floor, the sound will give you immediate feedback. my boyfriend, like a lot of guys, love the sound of a woman walking in heels. The click-click you get from heel to toe walking is distinctively female.
You should take smaller steps. This is in part because your balance has changed, but also because women take smaller steps. Dont worry, speed will come with practice.
Your hips will learn to sway on their own. To help this natural adaptation, walk putting one foot in front of the other. If you ever watch runway models, they will over exaggerate this by crossing their feet when they walk. This is good practice. But in actual walking, try to put one foot in front of the other. Over time, you will realize you dont have to be one foot in front of the other like a drunk driving test, but when you feel your stride go off, you can do two or three steps, one in front of the other and it will come back.
The last thing I recommend is video taping yourself practicing.
Good Luck
