Now that I'll soon be in my 69th year, I still get rock hard, but I hang down at 4 o'clock, rather than up at 10 o'clock.
I sometimes have the same issue as Ryan, I get so hard it gets sore. I always been this way and age only has cut down on how frequent I would get spontanous hard ons.
I wonder if it's due to me keeping in very good shape. I don't smoke or drink much...so I wonder how hard you get is a result of good health.

For me there is a 'normal' stiff erection, which is hard, does the job very well, feels great for me and her, etc. I believe there are very normal and slight variations in our erections, based on arousal, hormones, stimulation, etc.

When I was a teenager (18+), I'd could hang my bath towel, dry or wet, from my erection. The feeling is like you could poke holes in the wall, pound in nails, i.e. 'rock hard'. That super-hard-it-almost-hurts type of erection was less frequent into my 20s, 30s, and beyond, but still does happen every once in a while now that I am in my 50s.
