I'm just curious. Why do men shave their pubic hair? In our early teens we're waiting for the hair to start growing to show that we're becoming men, then, due to straight porn or some dated esthetic, some guys begin shaving their beautiful bushes. I'd like to know why. I keep mine lightly trimmed, but there's plenty of light brown hair down there to surround my dick and balls. Would love to know the reason people think they need to get rid of it.

Just some reasons I prefer it....
Visually cleanliness... the crotch just like the face looks better groomed to me (you don't have to be bald, but groomed is nice). I also don't like pulling out random hairs out of my teeth.
VIsual inspection.... can't hide sores, red marks, and other warning signs like you can under a big, unkempt bush.
Sexual health benefits... Since shaving or trimming pubes has risen in popularity there has been a significant marked decrease in the presence of genital lice, to the part where some outlets report they are an endangered species
Smell... less hair captures less odors, which is preferable for some people.
But again, this is all preference. Everyone is allowed to like what they like without being called out or criticised for it.

For me it's smell, keeping it trimmed reduces odor especially in summer.

to be frank, if you're getting these that means you're doing it wrong, or not doing the maintenance and follow up afterwards.
the first time i shaved my pubes in college was on a lark and i didn't do anything special to prepare or care for it. I got burning itch so bad I thought i had an STI until one of my female friends told me about the experience women have shaving their legs and the preparation and maintenance that goes with it.
For many the solution is not taking a blade to the flash, but rather utilizing clippers and other machines made specifically for grooming. I have a set of clippers specifically for grooming body and pubic hair exactly because I am not trying to get razor burn, just a clean grooming.
I simply like how it looks on me. More and more. I also shave my legs and trim or shave my armpits.

My pubes started going grey - or at least my ginger ones were going Frey - so I decided to trim it up. Loved the look and then shaved the my sack and a margin round the base of my dick. Like the OP, I'm of the generation that regarded pubic hair as a sign of masculinity. Now that I'm a good bit older I find that letting it grow does not give me a forest, but wild scrub growth, lol. I trim it a bit just to keep it neat. I use an electric shaver for my shaft and balls.
Because they want to. Does there really need to be any more reason beyond that?
