There's not really any basis for assuming that the ancient Greeks had on average considerably smaller penises than the neighboring barbarians. That's not the best theory for why they had a different ideal of the male form.

I don't understand why we men obsess so much over the size of our dicks? I've never felt compelled to make fun of another man because his dick isn't as big or bigger than mine.

This is a very interesting topic to me as a wife of a man with a small penis. My husband is generally very comfortable and confident, but I know he is self conscious about his penis size. "Compensation" is a well known psychological theory. Competitiveness can result as compensation for a small penis, but there are other things to compensate for and inborn tendencies as well to compete and strive!
