So I’ve been a pretty skinny guy all my life and I had a period where I was unwell for a couple of years which made it even worse. Thankfully I am pretty much over that now and I have put some weight on but I have noticed it’s all going on my ‘love handles’.

I’d like to start doing an exercise regime from home. I have some weights and those stretchy rope things (?) but where do I start?

what would you guys recommend? My diet is pretty healthy too and well balanced according to my nutritionist anyway!

Any help is appreciated! Thanks guys

Just start with basics. Do overhead press, cleans, squats if you have a rack, bench press if you have a bench, deadlifts.

Depending on what you read, you should be doing five to eight sets of 3 -8,10 reps.

I would go by feel and keep it simple. 5 sets of 5. Keep a diary/record of what you’re doing.

Agree totally with twoton but I’d even be more conservative to start—a worm up set and then maybe just 2 sets of 12-15 on single muscle exercises and two range of 8-10 on compounds.

Most important thing, in my view, is to start conservatively, build your strength and not hurt yourself

Something I have done for many years and am glad I have, is keeping a journal of each workout I do. There have been many times for instance where I thought I had done a particular exercise better the last time I worked out, only to see that I actually got in an extra rep this time. Psychologically those instances give me a lift. Also, I can look back weeks, months or years to see where I was at to where I am today. Us older guys know how much more difficult it is to gain as we get older, and how much easier it is to lose it when we miss a few exercises.

Power90! It’s free on YouTube. Start with the 1-2 cardio/circuit and then next day 1-2 sculpt and alternate, take every 7th day off, after about 40 to 45 days you should be ready to move up to the 3-4 ones, which are also free online. :)
