It's very enlightened of you not to care. Considering no active player had ever come out before, considering he suddenly gained 6x as many Instagram followers after his announcement, considering his jersey immediately became the top-selling one in the league, it seems like a lot of people care, thankfully for positive reasons, not negative ones. He's the first out player to make a regular season roster. That matters. Maybe someday there will be a point when it doesn't and isn't newsworthy, but we're certainly not there yet--not when he's not just the first, but the only one so far. Seeing an openly gay player in the league means a lot to plenty of people.
