Photos & Videos 2021-2022 Nfl & College Football

Some seem to still wear jockstraps since I've seen a few recent pics of players wearing them in locker rooms or the straps are visible underneath their pants.

I was a collegiate football player (FCS though so nothing crazy) and then played rugby in grad school and beyond. You'll still see some linemen wearing cups. I was a tight end and blocking can put your nads at risk with another guy trying to out-position you. Most skilled positions don't. Cups can slow you down a bit bc no matter how 'lightweight' they are marketed, they still cause a bit more friction down there, and can easily move out of place and that can get really uncomfortable, really quickly. They can also jostle from the force in non-groin hits and cause pain and bruising too. But it's really up to the player. I caught a low ball in my junk during a game once and wore a cup for the next couple of games after that. Even though it wasn't super comfortable.

A college friend who played ball in HS told me that a lot of times when players “have the wind knocked out of them”, laying on the field… only to recover after a bit and walk off to the sidelines… that a lot of the time they didn’t have the “wind knocked out of them”, but had really taken a nut shot. They don’t cup themselves because that would “tell” the crowd they’d taken a hit, which was embarrassing. So laying there for a bit and recovering was sort of face saving.

Lol, I had typed out that response to the cups thing and decided not to post bc who really cares. And completely forgot it was in my drafts when I posted Rhodes' jocked-up cakes. Oh well lol. Yeah, I've taken some nut shots and just walked it off too. Keeling over doesn't do much and can cause a penalty if you take too long getting off the field which will get you chewed out by the coaches.

From a recent article in Horvath's hometown paper about his transition from stud tailback at Purdue to battering ram fullback in the NFL: "Adding the extra pounds is about going up on the scale but not losing the attributes like speed or elusiveness that got them to the league. Zander Horvath needs to go from having a running back's body to transforming into a fullback. That is about a 20-pound difference. That means he is on a 4,700-calorie diet." Abs will be gone soon...
