2021 Vacation Thread

I am eyeing Bangkok when travelling is permitted.

I love the snacks there. A major advantage is that it is not too far from where I live.

how mice y
for some reason reminds me of my world trip via several asian countries like singapore Burma/Myanmar
a lot more peaceful/settled in the early 80s

thanks for the thread TnJ
enlightening,to see people still have travel plans,in these nasty times
getting on with life

Somewhere off the beaten path in Cali since I already live here. So, unfortunately, that leaves Yosemite out and that’s my favorite, but it’s also too touristy even in pandemic times. Probably up the coast, north of the Bay Area. It’s not so busy and still has lots of redwoods to the oceans type of hiking. And not in the summer when everyone else will be thinking the same thing. Maybe mid spring or mid fall.

man oh man, Ft Bragg was always a great getaway.
I’d head out during whale migration, or during gravenstein season so I could come back with loads of apples.

I'm hoping, and right now it is only hoping, next September or October, that I can afford to rent a car and take a road trip that I haven't done in many years. Drive to the Washington State coast, and then drive all the way down the coast of Oregon and northern California on U.S. Highway 101, switching to truly scenic Highway 1, at a little town called Leggett, all the way to the Bay Area. Camping along the way at some old favorite beach spots, and Redwood forest campgrounds.

Partly for the relaxation of the long beautiful drive, but also to visit old friends and the relatives that I still have, (and like), there. Maybe spend a week there, galivanting around with my pals, and then fly home. It wouldn't be great timing for my work, so I'd really have to have it together, aside from getting the money together!

@Tight_N_Juicy - If by chance the orchard that you want to visit is in Sonoma County, where many orchardist reside, and if you've never been to northern California, north of the Bay Area, you might be surprised by the wide open spaces. Along the coast there aren't any large cities north of Santa Rosa, (the county seat of huge Sonoma County), until you hit way northern Eureka, which could hardly be called a "large" city. So many gorgeous, easily accessible beaches and walkable, magnificent forest trails. I'm guessing you would love it and feel safely socially distanced where ever you went.

you are absolutely going to do a travel blog for us, no?
I’d love to hang in Arcata for a day again. It was the stop off during harvest. I’d head uphill, work a month, and go home much enriched. My then partner trimmed for a take of the crop, and that sustained him most of the year...without raising prices since 1990.

now with legal, I don’t know how it’s working.

While all of our vacation plans were de-railed by Covid last year, 2021 was supposed to be the year we might be able to finally get away somewhere even if it was only in state and would have only required a single overnight stay.

Unfortunately losing my job last month and now having to start another pretty much precludes getting time off for at least another year so for us the vacation situation is pretty much impossible.

On the only good note, Mrs. Motion has already made plans to finally see family out-of-state that she hasn't seen in several years; but because of my situation I won't be joining her and I would feel a lot better had she been able to get vaccinated first, but like everything else he's done our governor has fucked up the distribution and we'll not in one of the priority groups that will support him during re-election.

So maybe 2022 will finally be the year we can get away from this shitshow for a few days, meanwhile the rest of the year will be business as usual :(.

Ah yes ' the holiday,' a term that evokes so many memories now and something I long for. Travelling opens the mind in my opinion and makes you realise you live in this tiny bubble day to day, there is so much out there to go and see if possible. I still remember cities I have visited and think of them often, the people and the buildings, the smells. I hope everyone gets a much needed break this year.

Also, anyone traveling up or down the northern California coast ought to check out Fort Ross State Historic Park, near Jenner, the hub of the southernmost Russian settlements in North America, (1812 to 1841). It is now mostly a replica of the original, (it was damaged severely in the 1906 earthquake, and the chapel was torched by arsonists in 1970), but it is still quite interesting, and a beautiful place to spend some time. Great clifftop, oceanside views!

(Full disclosure, for my enthusiasm: My maternal grandparents brought my family there many times for a picnic when visiting them when I was a kid.
First place that I saw pelicans and Steller sea lions!)

Anywhere away from all people.

Cootiepocalypse turned my house into a hell pit of assholes *blood family* one of which never leaves the damn couch

I want to be alone. Gloriously, singular in all my activities. I want my space uncluttered and undisturbed. I want to not consider inconsiderate people before every action.

I have some mountain land. Gonna put up a lotus tent to live sparse for sometime.

Hell is absolutely other people.
