One of the things that quickly developed once the internet website boom took off was performers getting signed to contracts restricting them from working with other studios unless there was some kind of cross compensation and even then it was rare for the more famous names to get that option because the exclusivity brought more money to the company that had them under contract. Funny thing is if you look back at the history of porn and average cinema, porn actually has led the way in how things were handled from a financial and contract perspective over the majority of the time.
