Well I live in the US and those norms don’t exist here. And it didn’t help that Armie looked like a grown stud in that film while Tim looked like a teen twink. Armie didn’t pull off the grad school college type in my opinion. I’m far from a prude but I just couldn’t suspend enough disbelief to accept that imagery.

Armie was 31 and Tim was 22 when CMBYN was shot. The age gap is not as dramatic as their looks makes it seem. Both of them were playing characters younger than their actual age, but by no means it was something really dramatic.

Totally agree. Also, it's not as if the actors were underaged. I adore the film too. CMBYN is basically a gay Romeo and Juliet. It's supposed to evoke memories of the excitement, infatuation and forbidden desire of a gay man's first love. It's a work of art. We weren't all holy and chaste virgins at 17 years old. Age of consent is 16 in the UK. Maybe it's an American mindset but I feel like the faux moral outrage and offense is misplaced here.
