I've only had one pair of running shorts where the lining stayed put. I always wear a jock or a sport brief.

If some ball skin shows, it’s not really a big deal.

But that’s your choice. I freeball anyway so I usually cut out the liner. The liners I have worn have been to my liking and keep everything fine, even if some ballskin does show.
