I’m not huge on guessing or assuming peoples sexualities, but regardless of what it is, I’d say he knows what he’s doing and knows he appeals to a large number of gay/bi men - plays into that to an extent.

Have you heard the average AFL fan discuss anything related to the LGBTQ+ community? I wouldn't want to come out and deal with that shit either.
You only have to look at the shit all the POC players have to put up with to see why none of the gay players in the league are willing to come out. It would be hell in their personal life as well. Can't just jump on Grindr to get a fuck without someone potentially going to the media.
