I totally agree with the above statements and I can see where people thought the plot was trite. But I still believe that the character of Oliver was perfectly ambiguous from the start. As @nemothirst pointed out, Oliver’s treatment of the one “friend” at uni was abrupt and cruel. I also remember feeling uneasy when he created the sob story that his father passed, because of how casually he spoke to his supposed “drug addict mother” on the phone.
There are subtle hints leading up to the demented things that he does, that really hint at him being unhinged. I believe we are set up to think that Jacob Elordi as Felix and his entire family is about to do something totally cruel and unfair to Oliver. That’s what I was waiting for at least. And then the story totally flips.
