Barry keoghan

Is he playing gay in Birds film?
Quite possibly? The film is in competition for a Queer Palm and is headlined by both Keoghan and Franz Rogowski (who quite recently fingered and was fucked by Ben Whishaw in Ira Sachs' Passages).

I mean that is a bit of a reach. A movie must simply deal with lgbt themes in any way to be up for that particular award but that doesn't mean that Barry's character will be queer.

He is playing a single dad with a daughter/son from what i've gathered so far. And sure that doesn't preclude his character from being queer of course but it seems less likely tbh. Also not sure how Franz being in the film increases the chances of Barry playing gay? :joy:

Franz has quite a few queer and queer adjacent roles among his career. And yes, it's eligible for the Queer Palm.

Two things are true. Yes, the film being LGBTQ themed doesn't translate in Barry being in a queer role but... knowing that BOTH of them have little to none barriers when it comes to sex and nudity, is quite a "justified" bet that they could be partners. I'm not getting hype up to set myself in disappointment but the user has some "reasoning" to believe it.

Well that's the problem isn't it. Most people here don't know how to set realistic expectations to save their lives :joy: .Keep your expectations low and life will never disappoint you.

I hadn't found anything plot-related yet about the film when I posted, so that is all I had to go with.

Barry just played a queer/bi role in Saltburn (see: bathtub cum-sucking + grave-fucking scenes), so I didn't think I needed to mention it. The point is that both he and Franz are comfortable with queer roles, nudity and sexual scenes and have demonstrated as much VERY recently. The confluence of these two actors in particular as the headliners of the cast is what allowed me to speculate the possibility.

It is just as possible, based on your synopsis, that it is the daughter/son that will be the center of the queer themes in this one. Who knows? I don't think speculating that Barry might be playing a queer character in this film is "setting unrealistic expectations." If he isn't, oh well, big deal.
