Am I the only person that just finds questions like that kinda dumb? It's such a waste of time, it's not like anyone is going to say "gays and LGBT are disgusting and I don't like them!".Someone asked him if he had an opinion on LGBTQ people on Instagram q&a today, and he replied that he "doesn't have much of an opinion on it to be honest, but don't force anything on me, like being vegan. You do you and whatever is gonna make you the best version of yourself but don't try to tell me not to eat meat because I love meat. That's what bothers me, when they shove it down your throats." I understand what he's saying to an extent, but I don't know where people are forcing anything down anyone's throats. Seems more like propaganda in the face of LGBT people trying to exist with the same rights as everyone else. The close mindedness and hint of prejudice left a sour taste in my mouth to be honest.
I suppose it's nice to know that someone you're supporting and effectively financing via social media engagement supports your existence. Yeah honesty is good, but some celebrities will*honestly* respond with something along the lines of "yeah of course I support your right to be you, I'm an ally". I think that's what people are looking for - to know that they aren't pandering to somebody who holds prejudice against them.Am I the only person that just finds questions like that kinda dumb? I actually appreciate his honesty here though, in an age of utter pandering and disingenuous lip service from many "influencers" and celebrities
There is no way to know if someone simply saying they are an "ally" is actually being honest, they are saying the "right thing", what they know their progressive and primarily gay audience wants to hear.I suppose it's nice to know that someone you're supporting and effectively financing via social media engagement supports your existence. I wasn't implying that you should give a shit or change your behaviour. You asked a Q and I was offering an explanation as to why people care about this stuff. I personally don't want to exalt people who hold uninformed negative opinions about my community, hot or not. Encourage the "right thing" to move forwards progressively and slowly the cultural baseline will shift, and with time we will have a better more loving society. There is no way to know if someone simply saying they are an "ally" is actually being honest, they are saying the "right thing", what they know their progressive and primarily gay audience wants to hear.
I'm sure some are like genuine about that stuff, but plenty are likely not and frankly I don't give a shit. I am not following thirst traps for their social views anyway
His statement reminds me of the semi-bigoted statement common in the 90s that were usually - I don't care what they do as long as they don't bother me. Usually people who were closeted bi and gay also said these things in my experience. It's rather backward by over 30 years. People shove hetero-normative things in everyone's faces 24/7, so some gay and bi and LGBTQ things every once and awhile, or even daily, should be fine also.Someone asked him if he had an opinion on LGBTQ people on Instagram q&a today, and he replied that he "doesn't have much of an opinion on it to be honest, but don't force anything on me, like being vegan.
