So, same. My family was deep into the Independent Fundamental Baptist scene. My dad was a pastor. I couldn't come out because my parents would have sent me to a camp for "wayward" children in hopes that my gay would be prayed away. A modicum of digging into Carson's Facebook will reveal that his family is similarly Baptist and very involved in church. Carson has relatives who, if I recall correctly, work in Christian ministry. I deeply relate to that sort of life.
Not at all saying that Carson is gay (despite the very festive and flamboyant way he presents himself online), but if he is on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, he might be waiting until he gets away from his family's influence before making any move. Or, based on his recent Insta story, maybe an announcement is coming tomorrow. My son and I have discussed how someone who is so involved with NASA and who resonates so wholeheartedly with all sorts of persons while being young, tender, and vulnerable surely must have an awareness of life that goes beyond the doors of the church.

On Carson's Cameo page, he has posted a video to a fan in which he drops a comment similar to "when I start dating, I want to watch this with my girlfriend..." You can check out his Cameo page here and scroll through the videos he's posted. Still, one does not take photos reminiscent of 80's George Michael and expect one's fanbase to look for a girlfriend on one's arm. Just sayin'.
I mean the cross necklace and the fact he comes from rural Georgia might shape his views on his sexuality or what he says openly about it. Give him time to figure things out, he's still young.

I’m in shock that he’s posting so much about gay pride month just to re-assert his “straightness“ — Girl, the call is coming from inside the house!
I was going to chalk his closetedness up to his religious upbringing (clock the cross necklace he wore all throughout 44) but the fact that he’s seemingly surrounded himself with gay culture & is clearly socially progressive makes his lack of coming out all the more strange. I get that he’s young & everyone’s coming out journey is on their own time, but for an uber-woke gen Z-er, 20 years old seems kind of late to the game to still be in denial.
I hope counselor & gay icon Carolyn is privately encouraging him to just get on with it & join the fun.

To be honest, I was just like he is at that age. Best friends with women, best friend (sort of, not in any kinky way, not that there's anything wrong with that, tho) with my mom, avoiding male influences, apt to cry when under extreme pressure, a vocal ally of LGBTQIA2P People to the point of wearing "straight but not narrow" and "ALLY" pins. Eventually, when it was safe, or at least as safe as it could possibly be, I came out. He may have years to go before he feels safe enough to come out. I'd love to be able to message him and be a sounding board for his questions, comments, and griefs. I've done the messaging bit before the season actually started (remember the merch issue being blown up?) and we chatted merch via DM on Twitter, but there hasn't been anything from him since.
