They are not embracing the gay community, though. They are pandering to the gay community so a) we will fill their pockets with money, and b) we will offer them praise and attention. These people are not doing any favours to anyone and they are purely acting out of self-interest - which is positive if you want to buy what they're offering, but we shouldn't misrepresent the situation. I strongly doubt that they give a damn about the gay community and if gay people didn't throw money at them, they'd probably be less than sympathetic.

These are clearly guys who are comfortable with the power rush of getting attention and being paid by gay people just because they are cute and have great bodies. That doesn't make them allies, because the relationship is entirely transactional.

These are clearly guys who are comfortable with the power rush of getting attention and being paid by gay people just because they are cute and have great bodies. That doesn't make them allies, because the relationship is entirely transactional.

Well I guess if so many gays consume this kind of behavior, including you (or else you would not be here), then it’s not their fault.

I don't disagree at all with your assertion. I am here for the reasons you state. However, there is a difference between finding men attractive and saying so, and incongruously lionizing them as heroes and calling them allies when they have an evident economic incentive to be nice and "supportive" and, if money weren't being exchanged, it's unlikely that they'd give a flying fuck about gay people.

In short, saying 'I find this guy handsome and/or desirable' is very different from being willing to part with your money in order to get a little attention from him, and deliberately presenting him as something that he is not just because you're attracted to him. It's as simple as that.

Didn’t they show up to pride and all? I mean, of course it’s hard to draw the line! Ally, or cash grab. But again it’s the same pattern for so many companies during june and so many influencers…

Oh and on top of that! Don’t forget about the crazy gays that don’t understand boundaries and will cry for homophobia as soon as a straight guy rejects their “advances”.

too many times we’ve seen “he’s not an ally if he can’t take one for the team”.

They were in the pride parade to show their alliance and acceptance of our community and at the same time plug their business for shameless promotion. Nothing they did was in any abuse of “power” or “privilege”. They know their audience and wanted to show that they are in support of it. At this moment when everything seems to be under fire we should celebrate and alliance we can get, regardless if they are doing it with profit in mind. Take what we can get.
